hi every1!,
i am always hearing the terms notional and actual winnings when people talk about bsja winnings but whats the difference and what do they actually mean?

Actual refers to the money you take home on the day. If you win a 90cm and win £50 that is your actual prize money but in order not to put a novice too quickly out of novice classes the notional prize money will be about £20.

In order to be out of the smallest senior class you cannot have won more than £100. So by using the notional to calculate this you do not get put out too quickly. The BSJA rukle book sets out the notional prize money for the different type of classes.
