Hi, my rottie has had acupuncture today for a long term soft tissue injury as due to various operations & lots of medication he can no longer take any pain relief or anti-inflammatories. It's the 1st time he has had acupuncture and the needle has been left in his ear to work its' magic and he has to go back in a week. I honestly think he was limping less the minute he left the vets but that could be my wishful thinking! Does anybody have any experience of acupuncture in dogs - either good or bad?

My vet has also suggested I hire their TENS machine to see if he will accept it whilst relaxed at home (he is very sensitive and tenses up at the vets) and I was wondering of anyone had any experience of this too.

Don't know about acupuncture but we use a TENS machine on my brittany after he has surgery. t truly made a difference for him. It was expensive to hire from the vets so we just went to lloyds pharmacy and got a little machine for £10.

Ok thank you - can you give me an idea of how long to start him with and whether I will need to shave where the pads go. Do you use the machine daily?

Yep we use the machine daily and do not shave his leg at all.

I started off by just letting him walk around with the pads on then connected it up and the started it on very very low for 30 seconds and just built it up as he was comfortable.
