Acupunture

Yes it is. My mare had it done for a while to help her arthritis.

worked well for about a year and she really enjoyed it

Worked for my old gelding on his back, every 12months or so he had a treatment & you could def see the difference in him. Laser acupuncture, I'm a believer, no one could tell the horse he should be feeling better, but he definitely was.

We have a Chirovet who does acupuncture as well and it seems to work brilliantly. As horses cannot rationalise the treatment there is no "plecebo" effect that is common with humans so i guess if the treatment was effective in alleviating the problem, then it works.

Our vets use an acupuncturist to treat cats and dogs when they think it will help - the vet told me that they'd had a lot of success with problems relating to the back/spine.

Yes, it is. My mare has it currently to help with facet joint arthritis and it's the only thing thats worked. We went down all the veterinary routes (referral to three counties, steroid injections into facet joints, mesotherapy etc...) and nothing worked. We tried acupuncture as a last resort and its worked wonders for her. She's much less tense over her back, moves more freely and is in general a much happier horse. PM me if you want more details on how its helped her :)

Yes my vet does acupuncture. He explained how it works while waiting for the needles to take effect on my ID mare with back muscle problems. I can't reproduce the explanation but when explained by someone with a science/medical background, it made perfect sense. It worked well for the mare.
I have had it done myself as well. My GP who is extremely highly qualified (Professor L) does acupuncture and it has been extremely effective on my back muscles on 2 separate occasions.
