Acute neck pain ??

So my boy has come down with acute neck pain and ataxia of hind legs , was fine the previous night hacking , vets out and suspect definitely neck pain causing the ataxia , is getting refered for scan however needs to be more stable hes late teens now but been eventing fit and never been lame behind or neck pain at all ever , so worried about him they discussed poss trauma poss arthritic changes ect xx so worried about him xx

It sounds like he's either been kicked or maybe been cast in his stable?
If it's due to an injury like this then often time and a steroid injection will help.
Once the scan has hopefully ruled out anything major ,.a visit from a chiropractor would be worth while.

I expect your horse has fallen on his neck or twisted it when getting cast somewhere.

When my horse fell over backwards onto his neck whilst being led in one day from the field the vet was called. I arrived to find him extremely ataxic and to cut a long story short it had caused issues in his neck which led to ataxia.

In order to stabilise him the vet gave him a large dose of finadyne in order to travel to hospital for neck xrays. Finadyne is used for the alleviation of inflammation and pain associated with musculo-skeletal disorder.

I hope your horses is alright.

It's so worrying when they're not right. One of mine was ataxic in his hind end after a run-in with a fence. After several days of IV anti-inflammatories and DMSO, he came 100% right and hasn't had an issue since. That was about 7?ish years ago
