Hi, i am after a little bit of help.
I currently have a male springer spaniel and am looking to add another one to the family.
I have seen the 'perfect' addition to the family however he is Male. I was always under the impression that you shouldn't keep 2 male dogs together as they will fight.
So i guess what i'm asking is can you ? Has anyone ever tried it? Did it work or not. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks Charlotte :)

What a load of rubbish. Two males can work just fine. I prefer a male and female but any combination is possible.

the usual advice is to get the opposite sex and i intended to get a male puppy when i got my second dog(already had a neutered female) BUT i picked the only female in the litter as she appealed to me the most. apparantly the worst combination is supposed to be 2 bitches !!!!! anyway i must be lucky as my 2 have always been fine and its now been over 7 years since i got my second one...good luck

IMO if they are neutered it just comes down to whether they get on or not, some dogs just don't get on, no metter what sex they are. Most do though, particualry if you are careful about introductions and the early days. He have two bitches (was 3 until recently) and the lurcher and lab aren't friends so to speak but they ignore each other, there is never any dominance except for over bones.

I work Springer Spaniels and have never had a problem having 2 male dogs. In the past I have worked 2 ( entire) dog in the beat line and have never had a problem. I have also had Bitches together again in the beat line. Again the bitches have been entire (not spayed). They are only ever separated in the kennels.

In the past I have also had 2 stallions together without any trouble. It is the way you treat them that counts.

I have 2 bitches, one spayed one not, and 2 dogs, one neutered one to young to be done. I'm currently sat here watching the 2 boys play like they have ever since they were introduced :)

Ive got 3 dogs currently, 2 dogs and 1 bitch. All are neutered/speyed and all get on absolutely fine. The only time I have ever had any issues was when I had 2 bitches and the younger one got a bit above herself and tried to dominate the older one, we had a few snarly incidents but nothing really serious. However, I am just about to add a 4th dog into the mix and have decided on a little boy just in case my current bitch takes exception to another girl in the house, she quite likes being the only one and can boss the boys about a bit, they dont seem to mind. I think if it were me, if the dogs are to be pets rather than working dogs and you will not be with them all the time I would have them neutered, it does seem to help calm down over exuberant behaviour, IYSWIM.

Thanks for all the help. I have bitten the bullet and brought the little one home last night. Everything seems OK so far ...The breeders are fab and will have him back no problem if they just don't gel. Will definitely be getting him neutered when he's old enough, it just makes everything easier. :)
