I posted about this the other day - you have to get 64% and over in two qualifiers to get through in the novice. Im going (hopefully - just got to persuade mum its a good idea!)
Freestyler is doing the novice and elementary aswell.
Sorry I have been away and have been told they haven't had a lot of interest so thought I would let everyone know [but not the good ones like you] .lol.
Hope we can meet up
I was told they may not hold it .I suppose it may be the higher tests that don't have the interest.Would have a go at elementary as it is unaff. but don't want to do affil. in case we get a good score and knock ourself out of prelim ,can you send unaffil. sheets?
Nope, affilliated, but you can use training ones, which I have done.. no points then so you do not get points. The sheets also have to be from a qualifier
You can only do the training section if the venue you are competing at has a 'training' section for the class you want to do. When you enter and look in your BD mag it will say O/R/T - which means you either enter open, restricted or training. Normally you only have O/R sections - depends on the venue really.
You can also ask to do the training section. I've just started doing Elementary & have done training at Harolds Park, Hastingwood, Norton Heath & Bluegates. None of them had training in the schedule but were happy to do it. You just put a T in section on the entry form.
I came 2nd overall on Sat at Bluegates & won £12!!
Some venues give Rosettes for the training section, some include you in the overall prize money (Thank you charlotte) & some do neither. It's up to the organiser what they do.
Yep, apparently if Training sections are not offered in the schedule, members may request a training section be held. The organisers must allow them to compete in training sectoins but it will be their decision whether to offer prize money and/or rosettes...I too rode and Elem. training as I still had novice points until last weekend, and went to Harolds Park. I just put T on my form and came away with money and rosettes!!! You can use these for A Festivals too!
Why doesn't everyone do training classes then. They seem a good idea, we don't want points as I don't see our horse as an advance horse but he is brill at lower level.
But it seems a bit of a cheat to me! Still if others do it!
Nope not really a cheat... it just allows people/horses that are not quite ready for the upper levels to have a practice! Before you know it you are in a level above yourself otherwise, that is why I did a few Training sessions, also it gets my boy out to experience different events etc...
I understand that and it will be perfect for us but why compete if you can do training ,and get rossettes and prizes. If you get placed surely you are ready for that level.
I can't see any reason to compete just do a couple to qualify then do training or can you only do training classes before you start to win?Can I actually do that ,qualify ,then do training at the same level but not get points, or do I have to move up a grade. Otherwise it is just a way of competing without getting points [fine by me ,I don't want points]
Ok, take for instance my circumstances. I am a novice rider, not much experience in dressage, my horse too. We want to progress slowly and not take any shortcuts ie training along the scales of dressage, building up muscle, stamina, ring craft blah blah. We did well at Prelim and Novice but within only say 10 outings we were nearly out of novice, but not quite ready for elementary, but wanted to keep going out. I had qualified for Novice Rest. regionals but still had 6 points left. I wanted to try for Novice Rest. winters, although almost ready to do elem. did not want to do this becase it would make me a grade 7 rider and have to ride in open novice which I did not want to do!
Hence, I did elem. training to gain experience no points gained and still could use my 6 points in Novice to try and qualify for Winters. Points can add up very quickly and before you know it you are into a class which you are not quite ready for.
Also in training you do not have to be registered, nor the horse. You do not always get rosettes or prizes. If you win in training obviously so well and good, and maybe you are ready for that class, or it may well be that there were only a few competitors! You can win on less than 60% sometimes, which does not really indicate you are ready for that class!
I will be doing a training novice at the regionals as I want a practise before my main event, I cannot do open or restricted now as I have no novice points. I will now do restricted elem. but if the points tot up too quick I shall no doubt do training for medium first to see how we get on.
so, you can qualify then do training at the same level and get no points. If you have an excellent horse but still "novice" if you go out and get 70% every time you soon loose your points and find yourself having to compete at an upper level when you are not quite ready for that.
As I said complicated. I will use this knowledge as we have just qualified and stopped competing because our horse is only 5 and is not an extravagant mover but very correct and calm so gets great scores in prelim[ best in aff 79.2%] and good scores in novice [best 72%] but may only be good at lower level.
At the moment we are aiming for the prelim summer champ at prelim/petplan winter novice rest /winter novice rest /spillers prelim and novice. It would be easy to knock ourself out of some of those and not qualify for the ones left, so you have given us a way to go to some shows and not get points. As I say he is a really good horse at that level and it would be nice to have some time to do his best at that level .
The rules are very complicated and we don't fully understand them [not sure many do]
Oh bum!!I have just put my entries in too!!! Better call them then... hopefully they will let me go HC.. Thanks for that Bannanaman!! There was me thinking I had read the rule book back to front!!!
Yep, the rules can be complicated and unless you know these things or someone tells you you do not realise!!! So now you can go out and do some Training get some experience under his belt and take your time with him! Voila!
