I was scared to post about it after being slated last time for advertising! lol But as everyone keeps asking....

He was very good, but unfortunately he was very tense, which is down to the covering. It stifled his movement a bit and he didnt get the marks he has done before, especially in the walk so we weren't placed.
He did a beautifully accurate international test though so I was really pleased with that! Although the commentary was SOO scary, as they said all the bad stuff about the test over the tannoy for the world to hear!

It was funny though, when I first got on he was over excited and he bronked all the way down the track to the warm up, and almost knocked Andrew Gould over, he had to jump out of the way!

It was a great experience though, and the standard was amazing! I cant get over the quality of horses we have over here now!!

we are going to do the Wellington one soon, so I am going to do loads of loosening and relaxing stuff with Merlin to get him back in the zone!

Sounds very educational. couldn't think of anything worse than having my faults broadcast for everyone to hear

Have fun at Wellington & avoid the pedestrians.... especially the well known ones

Excellent stuff, shame they had to be so critical over the loud speaker, although i guess you learn to grow a thicker skin.

Well done tho, all sounds very educational

I did the National 5 yr old and the International. He did better in the second as he had relaxed slightly. It has Counter canter, simple change etc. so was pleased with him. He still got 67. something but not up to the amazing standard that day!

That's right - if all else fails wipe out the competition!

Glad you enjoyed it and hope he's back in the zone for Wellington!

Well done, there were apparently a lot of very good horses there. Can't see the results on the addington site, do yo know if they're posted anywhere else? x

Well done, sounds like it went pretty well in the circumstances.

My take on it is that OK, you didn't do your best on the day but you know that there is so much more to get once Merlin's brain is more focused on the job in hand and NOT on what he'd rather be doing.

If you had got that score and had performed to your very best then there is no scope for improvement at all.

Hopefully at Wellington he will be more relaxed and earn the marks you know he is more than capable of.

Good Luck.

Excelllent all things considered and great mileage on his clock- and 67.something is fab regardless of competition and standard!

I was a bit reluctant to post about yesterday for that reason - plus we don't want you getting any busier, do we!

I think you did excellent. There were some very very talented horses there both days so you deserve a pat on the back! With those scores and knowing there is more once he relaxes well..who knows where you will be going!
