I know this has been a thread before, but what I wanted to know is:

Once they have had the initial course how often do they need doing again?

If so, is it just one injection or a course of again?

Does it get injected into the joint?

Can a knowledgeable person do the injections after the first consultation?

An up to date idea of cost please?

Sorry but if I need to remortgage my house I would like to know!

After initial course they dont necessarily need another course.

Its a course of the injections again. (7 I think over 3 weeks-ish)

Its injected into the body, not joints.

A confident person can do the injections, someone on our yard did.

I think the course is around £700, may be wrong but thats the figure that springs to mind.

My horse had a course of Adequan for a hind suspensory injury last year. If I remember correctly, he had a course of 7 injections - one given every 3 or 4 days. My vet taught me how to give them but I got YO to do them in the end as he was experienced. They were given into the neck muscle not the site of injury.
Did they work? Well, they were only one weapon in the armoury but the suspensory has healed. He had a lot of box rest and restricted paddock as well as shock wave therapy. Hope this helps!

It CAN be injected as a joint injection- one of my horses has had Adequan in the past as a joint injection for a bone cyst- he had 2 injections about 2-3 weeks apart i seem to remember and was box rested with controlled exercise for about 6-8 wks as well, for his particular problem. My horse to this day (*touch wood*!!!) has never needed it again, he was put back in to full work v slowly and he came back really good, in fact better than before he went lame!- (i know it can also be injected as an intramuscular injection as well)

As a joint injection it was very very expensive- around £500 a go (and that was a few years ago- but i suppose it depends on the vets charges as well as they do seem to vary), gold would be cheaper to buy!-but it's fab stuff-thank goodness for insurance!

Thank you all so much for your replies! I have digested all that you say and have the vet coming tomorrow to have a chat. I'll keep you posted as to what he recommends and the outcome. Thanks again.

Mine received Adeqaun for a tendon injury - I had to inject it into his rump every 4th day and the vet showed me how to do it. The 7 vials cost approx £500 and the horse recovered well.

Just to let interested parties know. The vet came and saw my horse, Gilbey. He diagnosed arthritis in front legs too. But he felt as all I will ever want to do is quiet hacking (I am disabled) then a good joint supplement (which he is on) and 2 Danilon should suffice. He would try a steroid injection before Adequan if it comes to it. As Gilbey is also cushinoid he has presecribed a course of Pergolide(spelling?) for him.
