Is there such a thing???

I'm applying Hydrogel twice a day to a nasty wound on my horse's thigh, and am covering the treated wound with an adhesive dressing as it's too awkward a place to bandage - Does anyone know the best ADHESIVE DRESSING for applying in these situations? I'm buying human dressings from the chemist ATM but wondered if there was anything more 'sticky' specifically for application over fur?

Its called something like poltoplast (sp) and you can get it from the vets in whatever lengths you like. I used it to hold a dressing on a wound at the front of the hock so it was wrapped round the thigh to keep the dressing up...if you know what I mean......sticks for days!!

hi there i am a student nurse working with the district nurses at the moment so get plent of dressings for free esp when we get visits from the reps. i have found the best way to get the adhesive dressings to stick is to clip the area you are wanting to dress make sure it is fine blades, then get allevyn dressings and put a mepore over the top worked wonders with my accident prone tb came in last week with a lovely puncture wound above his knee. hope this helps

Don't know if this is any help but someone that I know had a horse with a bad wound on her thigh and she resorted to using ultra absorbant nappies and loads of duct tape. Nothing else would stay put.

Thanks

There is an adhesive dressing - but I can't remember its name. Word of warning though, the adhesive caused horrendous sores on my horse as I couldn't remove the sticky residue from the hair properly. 2 years later she is still suffering from it. Maybe she was allergic to it, and that was why she reacted so badly, but I wouldn't use it again.

Yes, I'm allergic to elastoplast so appreciate the allergy potential. I've purchased some Polster-Plast online but will test a small area, before covering the wound on her thigh. Thank you for the warning.
