I have been experiencing problems fitting my awkward shaped boy with a saddle and have had numerous saddle fitters out and tried numerous different saddles. I then met a lovely lovely man who is a bowen therapist and saddle fitter. He supplies Saddle Company saddles also.

To cut a long story short I decided to buy a saddle company saddle and it fitted Basil like a glove. I was amazed! It was the Verona GP. The problem was it was really uncomfortable for me :( I felt really perched on it, my knees came over the knee rolls and it was killing my bum, back and other unmentionables!

My lovely saddle fitter took it back and supplied me with a dressage saddle to try instead. I went for a 17.5" instead of 17" and had memory foam in the seat. I could have cried when I tried it yesterday.......it was just as uncomfortable, put me in an awful position and was horrible but again fitted Bas perfectly and he loved it.

So now I have a dilemma! I really want a saddle with a serge panel and it really needs to be adjustable - any suggestions?!!! Or do I just go with the saddle co. one and put up with the discomfort?

Look for one made by Barrie Swain or Nick Dolman, supremely comfortable and well made saddles. Search also for Specialised saddles (for second hand) or Ebay often has some. Good luck!

The Saddle Company will make to measure for you. If needed you could have a slightly longer panel to accomodate your legs. It would be worth phoning Dave and speaking to him.

Other than that I would go for one of Barrie Swains, I have two and they are wonderful saddles, the best IMO.

Hi, I did try the original GP with a Heather Moffett seat saver but still had that unbalanced "perched" kind of feeling?

Barrie Swain was mentioned by my saddle fitter - he is going to have a chat with Dave today I think and see what he reckons. Are they very expensive? I am poor! :(

They can be expensive but I got mine from Ebay for £200, then spent a further hundred getting it altered to template (was quite a near fit when I got it)checked and restuffed. That's the beauty you can alter them to fit your horse. Obviously I knew more or less what we needed so just watched and waited until the right kind came along. It has serge half panels.
