I have just bought a Bellcrown carriage for my pony but think (havent got to the hitching up stage yet) that the shafts are going to sit to high on her body. I also think that its to wide (was made for a 14.3hh cob shes 13.3hh irish) is the width an issue? The shafts are supposed to be adjustable in width and length. I can see that the shafts are secured in the socket by two bolts & looks like any adjustment would only be a couple of "s but i cant see how you would adjust the width at all?
I have a friend who is a welder / fabricator so was thinking of asking him to make me a pair of shafts that are slightly shorter and with less of a curve so they sit lower on her body. Would that be ok or are they this shape for a reason?
Also having looked on the bellcrown website i can see that the phantom - almost identical to mine has two types of shaft options, "standard" and "short bend" what would be the difference between the two?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
