We use them on the front of our stables when both doors are kept open. They are often a little too narrow for our boxes but if you add simple d shaped metal fixings to the bracket on the stable wall, they are the correct length and it works well. Our shetland does go underneath on his knees and the end catches seem to break relatively easily but this has never happened just by the larger horses leaning on them. And they go in the washing machine which is fab! Hope that helps.
 
I had one of these for years without any problems with my old mare. It lasted a matter of days with my new horse as he managed to get his leg stuck in it. The next day he decided to walk straight through it and broke the metal fixings. I have replaced it with a rubber covered chain that he can't get his leg caught in and taught him some manners. :)
