Horse is due to go in the field for the first time in 2 months at the weekend. I have several tubes of Sedalin from the vets to help for the first few days but cannot get anywhere near her with them (she has always been the same, but I thought I might have been able to work on it in the last month). She isn't overly food orientated, will refuse the apple if I put it in a cored apple. Any other ideas, or tricks that have worked? It gets to the point she gets so wound up by it she just fights the Sedalin and it has no effect if I do get it in her.

Really? Wow, I thought that you could get ace tablets and granules in the UK?

Whoops, in that case I’d treat like a difficult-to-worm horse.

You can get tablets for dogs, but even those aren't licensed for horses any more. Such a pain, as that's the easiest way to get them down a reluctant horse!

I hid sedalin in a small amount of food.

BUT - my mare had a bad reaction to it and literally climbed the walls of her stable. At one point she reared up and tried to come over the door. It was awful to watch and incredibly dangerous to deal with. There is now a note on her vet file that she is IV sedation only.

Never seen a reaction like it before, but apparently it can happen if they fight against it.
