I'm new here and writing from Canada hoping that someone can recommend a stable that does some sort of "camp" for adults with riding. I'm just getting back into riding at 47 (yikes) and would like to jumpstart the re entry.

My husband is from the Midlands so I can tack on some riding onto either side of our visits.

I"m happy to stay at a local BB if someone can recommend an excellent stable with sane horses and experienced instructors. The goal is to get myself jumping little jumps again, or in a dream world, to get it together to be able to ride my daughter's jumper since she's off to Uni in the fall (but that's a long shot :)

Almost any decent riding school will construct an intensive package for you - in your shoes I'd have three lessons a day, with one each of flatwork, poles/jumping, and one on the lunge. Book a B&B that can offer hot baths; you'll need them! I did an intensive week at Contessa that was reasonable, but there are bound to be places in the Midlands that will suit. You'll get more out of it if you can have at least a couple of lessons a week between now and then - intensive riding will make you very stiff and sore so the more you prep your body the more you'll get out of "camp" :)

There are large equestrian centres throughout the uk which offer riding holidays. The packages can include both lessons and hacking or just one of these, you get to ride daily, some let you look after the horse too. There might be horse related trips out or non horsey down time too where you can get to talk to the other people there so there's no problem if you're holidaying alone. There is usually something else nearby eg a city filled with tourist type things or a golf course etc for the non horsey partners. If you buy a UK equestrian magazine there will be adverts in the back of it for these sort of places.

The wonderful RS I go to would put on a schedule for you. Google them - Pine Lodge School of Classical Equitation - Norwich, England. Just be aware of rider weight limit as I don't think they have any horses that could take over 13 stone (180 pounds) but if applicable you could check that out wherever you go. Recently 2 ladies came for a week from Hong Kong and had a marvellous time! They don't have any good hacking (trail riding) mind you.

Hope you find something - if you want to look further you can google search BHS Approved Riding Schools and you should see lots - then if there is one you like you can google its name and see if there have been any comments about it - often this forum comes up in discussion of different places!

This is incredibly helpful! thank you. I've google a lot of place but have been in the horse business long enough to know that a fabulous web page etc.. don't always correspond to quality care of instruction.

Thanks for the private messages as well; I've got a great list to work on. which I plan to do today because getting my taxes ready sucks, and this is clearly a priority... wouldn't you say? :)

When I was returning to riding after a break (for uni and having low paid jobs) I spent a week a the Yorkshire Riding Centre. It was just what I needed - but as someone else has said, you'll need the hot baths!!!

Good luck
