My better half would like to take a riding lesson to see if he likes it. What do male beginners usually wear? Does he need any supportive underwear? Are jogging bottoms ok? Not sure he will be keen on tight trousers!

I would advise supportive undies (not loose boxers as things can get erm sat on!) and comfortable clothing - not jeans unless they are very stretchy. Jogging bottoms should be fine as long as they aren't too baggy as then they could get caught.

Decent supportive underwear a must! I have riding and non riding underwear!! :)

Yes, anything which hoists it all up and out of the way. He might find something like cycling shorts under jogging bottoms or tracky bottoms might be good too as lucky men don't have as much padding as us and his seat bones will probably take a beating! Don't forget nice sensible footwear. A lot of men have Chelsea style boots as normal footwear and these are ideal.

Yep, keep the jewels right up tight. Cords give a little grip, jogging bottoms are too loose and too warm also pointy shoes not hiking boots until he gets his heels, down stirrup jammage is disconcerting, full face crash helmet? (last is a joke)
