Ok so just a fun thread to see how many of you are happy on your ponies ? And what disciplines have you participated in ?

Pictures would be great I have jut got my 14h 4 year old cant wait to have fun

I'm about 5'6" and have been riding a friends 13.2hh (on a tall day!) new forest recently. He's a bit of a project pony (nice habbit of broncing as you get on) so not sure if the owner plans to keep or sell but if he stays he'll do a bit of everything at local level (dressage & clear round jumping style stuff, so very local & low level!), including endurance pleasure rides.
He does have a very pony stride (seems to keep up with the 16.2hh horses we've hacked out with lately) so I wouldn't want him for me (bouncy bouncy trot!) but he's a nice little chap. His owner also has a 14.2hh who has done dressage & endurance with a super smooth stride that I get on well with, they're very different types of ponies tho, horses for courses and all that!

I have two 14.2 Section D mares.

I've not done very much with these two (they are quite new). I hack, ride about the field, do a bit of mounted games. This year hoping to pass my B+E and do local shows and maybe get some jumping lessons if I find my brave pants.

In the past I've had 14.2s that I have done SJ, hunter trials, endurance, fun rides, polo, mounted games, showing as well as miles and miles of hacking. To be honest hacking is my favourite! Anything bigger I can't get on and off to open gates so with all the livestock around here if you can't open gates you can't hack.

I ride my friends 13.3hh Connemara x and I will be riding my New Forest when he is old enough to be broken, he will be 14-14.2. Oh and I'm 5ft 4 :)

I'm 5'7 and have a 14.1 cob who I have show jumped, hunter trialled and hunted but now just hack or fun ride due to me age :o. Mini has taken over the competitive riding on her. I love riding ponies, much more fun!

I've been known to sit on my Shetland (for all of 30 seconds) and I'm 5ft7...

When I was 5ft5 and about 8 ish stone, I broke her in and we had a little girl come over who was about 5 stone who learned to jump on her and everything :)

My three year old cob is 14'1 im 5,4 but I am overweight :(

but my 6ft farrier 15 stone sat on her for 10 secs to prove a point that I may not be too heavy

5' 4" on a 14.1hh NF x Welshie or my other old boy before he was retired a 14.3hh cob. Weight - in case anyone is interested somewhere between 8 1/2 - 9 stone depending on chocolate consumption:D

I'm 5ft 2" and ride a 14.2hh Haflinger mare. She has previously done 18 & 25 km fun rides with an EGB group with her prev owner. I hope to do a bit of everything with her once we are fully in the swing of things.

My mate said last night "Aww she looks like my little pony in that new lightweight turnout (purple and bright blue edging) .. well says I that's because she is!!"

I'm 5ft8 and I have a 13.2hh New Forest mare, we haven't really done a lot but we did showing, dressage and SJ at our local RC show last summer (the week after I bought her!) and I've taken her autumn hunting too.

Just bringing her back into work after a lazy winter and I hope to spend the summer doing fun rides!

She actually takes up my leg surprisingly well (I am rather on the slim side so weight not an issue) and she's so easy to deal with.

Literally nobody on here rides on ponies at all...

:D

I'm 5'9, 26 and I ride two 14,1 highlands. Well i ride one properly, the other I've only just backed so he just plods around every now and then. Fergs on the other hand is rising 7, I backed him at 3.5 and since then he has dressaged, jumped, xc-ed, shown, TRECed, fun rides, played horseball, done mounted games and millions of other little fun things at home.

Just in case there's anyone on the forum who isn't sick of the sight of him:

I ride my daughters 13:2 pony (all disciplines) but not competed.
and I ride a 15:1 ArabX that is 14:3 when measured on his back and rides like a pony! Infact he is described as an over grown pony. Regularly our doing stessage we have "lovely pony" ....

Im 5'2 and a lightweight rider I have no issues riding my 13'0hh NF's or my Section B, I also have a 16'2 TB that I feel like a pea on a drum riding, but I was always taught its not how tall or big you are that is important its how light you are in the saddle and how well you carry your own weight that is more important.
If you are happy with your pony, your pony enjoys being ridden by you and you work well together then that is more important then any thing else. xx

Me!! {waves hand in the air}

I'm nearly 35, 5ft2 and ride a 14hh Welsh sec Cx. Love ponies - such fun xx. We hack mostly but do a little dressage in the school and I'm being brave and just started jumping lessons xxx

Yeees. I am 5ft 4 and (whispers) 40 years old . I have a 4 year old (5 in August) old coblet. He was 14hh when I got him in Nov and he is now 14.1hh. I have been mostly long reining him and walking him out in hand because we always seem to be waiting for his saddle to come back after being adjusted again! I hope to hack, school and perhaps do some low level RC stuff and showing.

I have 3 ponies :-)

13h 8yr old gelding (please no hat comments!)

And I have a 3 yr old new forest who feels massive at approx 14h but I am only a teeny one at 5foot!

I've got a ~14.1 on loan atm (I'm 5'1") but am getting a 15.2 vetted tomorrow, I was determined to get a horse after always having ponies! Probably remember soon why I've always had ponies...but he's easier to get on than the pony! :D

5ft 7 and I ride a 14.2 highland but occasionally hop on mums 14hh.... Did ride a conny 13.2 for a week or two as he was being a bad boy...

Yeah I do ! I'm 5'7" but only weigh 8.5 stone so not heavy , I have a 14.2hh Arab gelding I've had him for 16 years so would never part with him , we have done everything together and I've just bought myself a foal who is to make 16.3hh , I know he will never be as fun as my pony !
Also ponies are smarter than horses FACT !!

I am 5ft7 & have a 13.3 haflinger & a 14.2 heinz57. Although am debating on selling my 14.2 as I feel to big on him & I want to dome some jumping & xc with him :(

i only really ride ponies i dont like horses particularly im 5'8 and i used to ride a 13hh and a 13.2 but rosies 14.1 and a half so its alright :) plus im only 8 stone so its not like i squish them

Not the best picture i'm afraid, but I am 5ft 2in and weight about 10 stone. My pony is a 13.2hh Haflinger.

We aim to do a bit of everything this summer, some jumping, hacking maybe a bit of dressage or even cross country.

I love that I can get on from the ground and its not too far to fall off :p Plus ponies are ace! :D

I'm in the "adults on ponies" club too. 5ft 7ins and ride a 14.2 highland. He's brilliant. Does great dressage, pops a fence, hacks all day ... Perfect. .... Oh ... And very cuddly too!

5'5" and I ride a full up 14.2, previous to that I had a 13.2. Done a bit of everything with them, hunted, x-country, dressage, show jumping but never le trec!

I'm a normal sized, full-grown middle aged woman, but I once went hunting on my kids' 12.2hh dartmoor stallion. Not sure who enjoyed it more!
Not saying he was at the front of the field on the long gallops, but he did his job all day long, and I'd have been hard pressed to pull him up at times.
