Adults on Ponies what do you do with them?

My mare (Samba) is turning into quite the little star and I realised today that I could probably actually do something other than just hacking with her. She has now cantered out on a hack, loved it, and did not get strong and came straight back into a trot when asked. In the school she has started to work long and low in walk and trot and I can actually shorten and lengthen her trot which I was rather impressed with. Not bad for a driving horse (broodmare when I got her) from gypsys about 4.5 months ago. I am beginning to think that I could do some thing a little competitive with her just some local dressage and showjumping. I need to be trained in the dressage part of it first but we are having lessons now. However I now feel conscious that im on a 14.1hh pony. I am of course getting ahead of myself so nothing will be going on until next summer earliest. Just in a dreaming phase at the moment.

So those of you that ride ponies what do you do with yours if you compete?

Oh and decided on a show name today "Dancing the Samba" :D :D
 
well bronte can do up to medium/advanced medium level dressage, jump 3 foot plus showjumping courses and i am going to hunt her this season ponies can do what ever you want them to do sometimes it just takes a bit more effort than with a naturally talented wb/ tb type
 
I have done dressage, showing, fun rides on my 14.2 highland mare. Plan to show my youngster in years to come ridden county classes. New pony if i ever can get hang of her would do some veteran classes with her.
 
Most of my ponies are off gypsy sites, most are under 14.2hh ... I am in my 30s and 5ft6 and a bit (! haha). I do dressage, SJ, hunter trials, hunting and fun rides! Done a few ODEs and raking in the results across the board - no space left in the house for all our prizes. They make versatile horses & any embarrassment I ever feel evaporates as soon as I get my time in the ring and show everyone how it's done .... Only at the lower levels, mind! Not yet got past elementary dressage on my gypsies, but working on it!!
 
I have had my 14.1 mare for just over 20 years now.....I got her when I was 22 and I have done exactly the same as if she was 15.2, Riding Clube ODEs, SJ, loads of hunter trials and local shows. Sometimes there is an age limit for 14.2 classes but not very often.
 
Baileys (147cm) competes in Affiliated Eventing and Dressage and unaf SJ. There are no height restrictions in BD but for BE they must be over 143cm, we could register him as a horse and jump BS but we don't do enough SJ to warrent the cost.
 
Mystic is 14.2hh and im 21, I mainly take him show jumping but we also do dressage, hunter trials and have done a one day event.

My mums mare is a 13.2hh dales pony and she takes her show jumping and dressage, now prefers dressage and next year i think she is going to try working hunter as well but only goes to the two shows we can hack to as she wont load yet and we no longer have our trailer to practice loading in (I go to shows with a friend)
 
I ride my 14.2 in veteran classes at our local show and we have been to the Royal London with her. I also do pleasure rides. I used to show my other mare but my stepdaughter has her now and does all showing now as well as SJ.
 
I have always had ponies & competed them, Meg 13hh Welsh C dressage to medium level, sj, evented, hunted. Kizzy 14hh Welsh X, dressage to elementary level, evented & did some smaller BS classes last summer & MK3DE twice. Have had Fleur since March this year, 14.2hh ISH, senior BS at BN level already, aiming long term at 1.10m classes.
 
i do bs senior classes with my 14hh quite successfully. Have done a hunter trial with him. There's allsorts of different sized horse and rider combinations out there competing in pretty much all disciplines so don't worry about it just get out and have fun
 
I used to do affiliated show jumping with mine, unaffiliated dressage and eventing.

But I was told earlier on the forum that anyone of any age can compete BD on any sized pony.
 
I have a lovely 13.2 and am 5foot. We dont show but have lots of fun doing everthing else and I am in my 40s. Who cares so long as we dont.

I do unaffiliated dressage to novice with my 14.2hh highland and hoping to do elementary next year. Also done riding club sj to 2ft6 , can jump up to 105cm as single fences. Xc schooled up to 3ft3 and won our first ODE last year. Showing inhand and ridden might try some working hunter next year as both his parents did very well at it. Also went hunting for the first time last weekend and he was amazing. Aiming to maybe do some affiliated prelim with him next year if I don't end up getting something bigger.

I like your list would love to try Trec. When I move in March (and have more cash and regular job) think I am going to be looking for a riding club :D
 
My 14.2hh is now retired but we did showing (palomino society and some local shows where they allow adult on pony), working / show hunter, dressage - unaff, BD, riding club team, hunting, local sj. There is lots to do - some local shows state 14.2hh and under must be ridden by 16 and under but that seems to be fading out now

Edited to add - forgot about all the ODE's we did too !!
 
14.1 ? Dont worry about what you look like on e a 14.1, thats neaarly a horse!! I ride a 12.3, im 5ft5 (although im only 14 so not an adult) and i try to show her, but fail as she wants to be a racehorse, and i do a bit of sj- only 2ft and 2ft3 though! Ive jumped her 2ft9, and she did that fine, could do higher but our biggest jump only goes up to 2ft9 (daddy made them when i could only do a little cross pole :) )
Were planning our first xc soon, might only do a 5ocm class, or do a bit of xc schooling somewhere else instead.
We were champions at handy pony and gymkhana games at local shows would love to do pony club mounted games on her but not members of pony club and cant afford it at the moment, but maybe next year ;)
want to hunt (local hunt to a kids hunt for little ponies) but im far too scared
She would make a great race horse, but unfortunately isnt a tb, hehe!
No need to worry about your height unless you want to go affiliated :)
Ponys owner is an adult is very tall and she still hacks her out and stuff, doesnt ride her at shows as she has her own 14.1 hairy cob that she shows in hand, but is planning under saddle next year (she only got him in july ) :)

Ponies are great fun!
My 14.2hh irish cob does affiliated medium dressage, hunting, unaffiliated hunter trials (just qualified for 2 foot 9 BHS XC champs) and TREC, which I would really recommend having a go at!
My Welsh Sec D should make 14.2hh and I have high hopes for dressage with her, amazing paces!

No problem doing BS(JA), I do it on my 14.2hh & last summer with a 14hh, you can register a pony as a horse for senior classes.
 
i did senior bsja and a bit or BE on my 14.2 connie x before he went out on loan, and also a bit of dressage. At the same time though he is a wicked hack - safe but really fast and lively, did a TREC competition for a laugh and came 4th - used to mess around and do gymkhana games and handy pony too - ponies are the best you can do everything :) little project pony is 13.2 and we do little hacks, schooling and pop small jumps at the moment - my plan for him is that he will become a brilliant little allrounder for PC :)
 
I'm 18 and my little 14HH does everything pretty much; PC, RC BE100, SJing up to 1m 10, hacks, gallops at the beach, local dressage, bit of workers there isn't much she hasn't done :)!
 
I've not had my pony long and so far I have mostly hacked, done a working hunter class (which he won), handy pony (he was really good at this) and hope to take him cubbing next weekend. When I get the chance I will do fun rides, hunter trials and unaff SJ and dressage. He used to compete on PC intermediate event teams, so he has more than enough scope and ability for what I want to do!
 
I do all riding club stuff with mine - unaffiliated showing / jumping / little ode's etc. Having a go at novice dressage this winter and planning to give le trec a go in the spring / summer.

He's 14.1 welsh x arab.

We do quite well at local shows in things like working hunter. As long as you're not bothered being in classes with mostly kids, then its not a problem. Its all about just having fun for me!
