Adults on Ponies...

I don't have any pictures but i think i beat you all!
My section A is 11.2hh, 9 yrs old. I am 5'7" weighing in between 8 - 8.5 stone.
Height wise we look ridiculous but he's not suitable for children so i ill continue to ride him, well, I have done since i broke him in so why change now?
The only difference is I may retire him slightly earlier than normal. It's much better he's exercised than left in a field getting bored.

So long as you can put up with sarcastic remarks from passers-by you'll be fine.

I think a lot of it depends on the build of the pony obviously. A lot of you ride Welshies and Cobs which are very good weight carriers. Its weird, I felt fine on the little 14.2hh (the fuzzy one in the bottom picture of my last post) yet I feel almost TOO big on my 16hh TB x! The main reason being the 14.2hh was chunky as hell whereas my 16hh is very slim and compact.

My daughter is 5' 6", not sure how much she weighs but not very much I suspect, and we share our 13.3 hh Highland pony. I am a similar height but much heavier than Hannah and I think we both look fine on her.

Nope, heavier than you - fortunately Highland Ponies can easily carry a great deal of weight!

so at 5'11" and now 12.5 stone (yippeee I've lost 1st 6lb

) AND with a target weight of 11.5 stone is it feasable(sp?) for me to consider a larger Highland?

Isnt the old wives tale a stone a hand?
Sure someone more experianced will give you a definate answer but I would say you are fine now, if you lose more fab.

Remember a good rider will feel lighter to the pony then a novice in sack of spuds position and most natives are up to carrying full grown men.
I hope to have a NF at some point

Definitely I'd say...

although alot depends on your riding. An 8 stone inexperienced rider will feel more like 12 stone to a horse and a 12 stone sypmathetic rider more like 8 stone..
