I know the topic of adults rding ponies has been done quite often on here but I was wondering if there were many other members on here who owned small Ponies for themselfes to ride.
Most on here know I own Herbie a 12.2hhish forest Bred forester who ended up with me as i'm a sucker and noone else wanted him ;) I hunt him, show him, do dressage and showjumping. Although due to current happenings in my life we are mainly having fun wizzing round the forest bareback at the mo :D
I prefur owning ponies because
a. it's not so far to fall.
b. it's not so far to get back on after said fall :o
c. They are cheaper to keep.
d. You can have way more fun on a pony
e. I didn't start rding till my mid to late teens so missed out on the fun kiddy years of riding ponies.
f. Ponies are the BEST :D :D :D
Here is a pic of the shortarse one himself :D

I also own a 14.1hh forester that is for the kids to ride but the short one is mine all mine mwahahahahahahahahaha ;) :p :D
Anyone else on here own a shortarse pony just for themselfes and what do you do with yours. Please share I can't be the only one  ;) :)

I own a 14.1hh connie and a just 14hh trad cob. No kids but they are for me :)
Also make oh ride connie because she is a demon hehe.

Although she's technically not mine, I do ride my dads driving pony, who is about 13h. Although we've not been out and done much stuff lately as I've been busy doing some endurance with my 15h girl (that's as big as I go height wise!!), in the past we've done hunting, sj, and she is fabulous at Trec! Nothing phases this pony, and she goes between riding and driving without turning a hair!

Sorry no pic, but my feet stuck out the bottom waaaay more than yours do lol :D

I own 2 ponies. A 14.1 welshxarab that I used to loan and ended up buying who I love to bits - but he would be too much for most kids to ride.

I also own a 14.1 ish coloured cob. I bought her last year when I was looking for a 15hh ish gelding!! Saw her and fell in love!

I'm only 5'4 so smaller ponies are fine for me, and everything is easier; can get on from the ground easily, easy to tack up / do rugs etc and they are cheaper to keep!

I woild love to ridd my kids' Welsh A. Would be so much fun. But I am too heavy. Nexf pony we get will be one I share with them so I am going to have to shift some weight. Ponies are way more fun so I won't mind, even if we look a bit Thelwell. I have some rollerskates in the garage somewhere....

When I was younger and worked in a riding school I used to escort hacks out and the best two ponies for it were two welshies, one 12.2hh and the other 13.1hh.

They had loads of stamina, were good with the other horses, would lead from well and could dash from the front to the back of the ride to sort out any horses/riders quickly. Doing gates was a doddle.

They were whizzy little things that needed an experienced rider, but it was always interesting watching new riders faces as their instructor went to mount a diddy little thing bypassing the tb's and 'proper' horses. :D

Nice to here of other adults owning ponies :D Glad i'm not the only sensable person around ;) :p :D :D

touchstone I used to work in a riding school to. One day we had a group of men arrive for a two hour hack. They were riding the big hunter type horses. I got them all on and then went to fetch my mount. I pulled out Yarrow, a 14hh new forest pony. He wasn't ment to hack out as he was a demon but all the other horses had been working hard and the men were very expereanced. They all laughed at me and told me not to be silly and get my proper mount. Yarrow and I showed them though. we went to the two mile gallop. We all lind up at the start and had a race. I held Yarrow up at the start to give the others a head start (and to wind him up abit ;) ) I flew passed them at a flat out gallop. Reached the end, turned round and galloped back, they had only made it half way :p :D :D The whole way home we were all discussing how much weight they would need to loose to be bale to ride Yarrow Sparrow

Haven't got an recent photo's BUT I own a 13.3 New forest pony, forest bred. I'm 5ft exactly and weigh 6 stone :) Ponies are much more fun! :D:D I do hacking, XC, showjumping, a bit of dressage, and the favourite is galloping round the forest :D:D:D But then again i'm not EXACTLY an adult :o

Great pic!

I've pretty much only ever ridden 11.2-12.2 for the past few years and SO MUCH FUN. Very sure-footed, quick and great personalities. Rode a "proper" horse a couple of times and everything just happened soooo slooowwwllyyy.

Also, seriously, is it safer to ride a pony? Not so far to fall/not as high top speed?

But then again i'm not EXACTLY an adult :o

Me neither. The other week was galloping through puddles with my arms out to the side like wings yelling "Fly Herbie Fly" We were right next to a road as well with cars and lorrys going passed drivers giving me funny looks :o

Goodshipblossom Not realy shore Herbs is safer than the bigger horses i ride Herbs can rear, buck, leap and spin better than them and he is prity fast if he desides to go ;) :p

Also forgot to say I'm actualy going down the sizes of ponies. My very first pony was 14.2hh, Lucy was 13.2hh, Herbs is 12.2hh so what next. I think I'll have a shettie next ;) :p :D

I am also a 5ft7 adult with ponies, have had bigger horses & like both equally as much, but I do normaly end up with the ponies.

My first pony was 15hh, Fergs is 14,1ish and Dae is about the same (currently 14hh but not fully mature). I like them little :D

JFTD I love your highland you always look like your having so much fun together :D Love how you are wizzing round jumping, a mad dog is running round and the hother horse in the field is just grazing. you can almost here it saying "See what I have to put up with" :p :D

Least this dog doesn't stand under the fences  Moving fillers on a young horse were a bit scary! There's normally two horses loose. I have videos of me jumping my cob just after I got the Daemon and he's following us around everywhere - talk about distracting!

(btw the white bit at the bottom of the 2nd photo is also dog. He's always there - somewhere! :o )

moving fillers. That brings back memories. Years ago I used to hack Lucy over to a friends farm and we used to jump in the sheep field. We jumped a fair few sheep as well as the jumps ;) :p

I used to work with showjumping ponies and 2 of them were 12.2hh that i had to ride. They were so much fun and way harder to ride than the 13.2hh. I was far too tall for them but they took me really well and regularly ran off with me .
I now own a 14.2hh traddy cob and a 15.1hh cobxtb. I would love to be able to ride my daughter's 13.2hh section B but i am too heavy for him. He looks a lovely ride.

I still have my daughter's 2 previous ponies, who I then took over the rides on. Eddie a 13.2hh Forester who is now retired, and Lucky a 14.2hh NF x TB who I should be riding but he has back issues and cant be ridden any more ..... both have Cushings too!

I much prefer riding ponies, lots of fun, easier to get rugs, saddles on etc - hope to have another pony to ride one day soon.

I still have my first pony, 13.3 sec D :) Not riding her at the moment due to some issues she's having but can't wait to start again :p

that photo was taken a few years ago, am 5ft 4 now but don't look any different!

And my 14.3 sec D mare, I look better on her height wise as she takes up a lot of leg :) When not overweight, her saddle is Extra Wide!!

Holding arms out to side flapping whilst lorries and cars whizzing past. Jumping sheep. How responsible. Glad you didn't cause an accident, and I bet the farmer used to love you if the sheep were in lamb.

micki ponies are much more fun and I get away with all my sillyness out riding cos my pony is so weeny people assume i'm a kid ;) :p :o

Sprout you know I love your ponies. They are so sweet :D

castella your pony looks lovely. :)

Toffee_monster your ponies are stunning. Love the first pic

Megibo I have a soft spot for welshies esp mares. (Shhhhh don't tell my boys ;) )

Not right next to a road in the normal sence I live in the new forest we were far enough from the road. Plus Herbs is a forest bred so more than used to traffic ;)
Sheep wern't in lamb and we didn't perposfuly jump them. Sometimes they just got in the way. We were about 13 at the time. We got into more trouble for tryng to ride the sheep.

Everybody does stupid and annoying things as a teenager... I was terrible for seeing grass and going for it, whether I was allowed on it or not! Fortunately I now have more respect
