Is it possible?

Please stick with me, im desperate!
Have had my boy for 18mths, for the first 9mths he was a saint (although i bought him very underweight and poor) Everything was great until he did his sesamoid lig and ringbone was also diagnosed, hence boxrest, then restricted turnout, i also put him on superflex. (oh, he also had a week of bute and 6 weeks of devils claw)

Since then, and coming back into work (since oct) he has been a nightmare, calm and relaxed one minute, then spinning, spooking, bucking monster the next!

Have had him vet/saddler/back checked etc and just cant fathom why he has changed do much, he also seems worse since being on calmers..Please help.

It is so unlike the horse i had for the first 9mths something must be wrong! Could he be reacting to the bute/joint supplement/calmer??
At my wits end and feel like giving up.

Thanks for all those who have stuck with me

Hi, not sure if it will be the supplements but thought Id tell you my experience.
My old sensible bombproof mare was diagnosed with ringbone and had all the usual vet treatment as well as liquid cortavet, paid for by my insurance. I never noticed any difference in her temperment and no improvement in her low grade lameness. Once the insurance ran out I tried Feedmark Flexamine and wow, what a difference. She was so forward going..... a bit too forward and very much on her toes, so much so I decided to stop giving it to her and she returned to normal soon after.

All I can think is that she had always been in pain since I bought her and this was the real horse with no pain???

Cant you take him off the calmers and supplements for a short while to see if he returns to normal?

What calmer are you feeding?

Any other supplements at all?

I gave mine echinachia to boost his immune system and he turned wild - thought I was really silly asking on here if anyone else had had an adverse reaction to it and was gobsmacked by the amount of people who had!

Started on Global herbs Super calm, now on top spec calmer.

Joints, started on devils claw and superflex, now on Prmierflex HA

He also had garlic but have stopped that now due to a scary post somewhere on here!

Well I wouldn't be worried about those supplements at all. I too would be looking at ulcers - apart from the bute the enforced box rest could easily have caused them. Try feeding a supplement for low grade ulcers and see if you get an improvement, there are plenty on the market but my choice for my horse is Coligone :)

have just spoken to vet who said he doesnt see why either of the supplements should cause these problems, but has anyone else had a similar problem? I am at loss here and dont know what to do, i just want my boy back!

I don't know if this is of any help, about 6mths after getting George I had a nasty fall and lost all my confidence and George started napping and spooking (I did realise at the time that he was just reacting to my lack of confidence and edginess), so I tried him on a calmer (nupafeed) and he went completely potty on it - took him off it and he settled down.
