Has anyone ever experienced any side effects from Noridine? Two days into course for a wound, horse became extremely lethargic to the extent that she couldn't do any sort of work, even gentle hacking. Appetite OK, droppings on the soft side, but nothing horrendous. Vet coming today, will get full bloodwork done.
Any feedback very welcome.

sounds like it may be the infection rather than the antibiotic. i did have one for whom it made no difference and if it is the wrong antibitoic for the infection it won't work anyway. My vet advises it is not effective for hoof abcesses. vet is best to advise and bloods a good idea.

Lethargy isn't a listed side effect - although I suppose it could be secondary to hepatic or pancreatic damage? Full bloods a very good idea. Good luck and hugs!!

While I think doing bloods is probably a good idea, I feel many horses, people also, will feel lethargic while fighting an infection and on antibiotics, most will be having time off work while being treated so will not be showing obvious signs, some support for the gut in the form of probiotics should help and give the horse a few days off to get over it.

Agreed. Antib's can cause all sorts of tummy troubles in some humans too so I don't see why horses should be any different.

Another one who agrees with this. Previous vet used to prescribe Norodine as its antibiotic of choice and it always upset Kal's tummy . . . I found that giving him a pro-biotic yoghurt in his feed helped hugely. Also, don't underestimate how under the weather an infection can make an animal feel . . . I hope your horse recover soon.

So the bloods came back with raised liver enzymes. Any advice on feeding a horse with liver problems gratefully received. Vet has said low protein/low fat, soak her hay (steamed at the moment) add milk thistle, and we will start hepatasyl as soon as they can get some.
