Advert CC

I wonder whether he might actually be a bit cheap (he looks to be a really lovely horse!) and that's making potential buyers suspicious?

He looks absolutely lovely OP. I did notice clicking on the link that you have 2 different prices mentioned - that can put people off as they suspect something fishy going on!

I slightly disagree with the last poster about his price - I think this is probably a very fair price as although he looks wonderful, his age is going to pull his price down unless he is a CIC kind of horse.

Sorry you are having to sell him, must be a wrench after 7 years :(

I would suggest including at least one good picture of him working on the flat. Does he hack out alone and in company? Does he have a good veterinary history. All things that would be worth mentioning in your ad.

The other thing that could be putting people off is that in your video of him xc he taps the first fence quite hard and doesn't make the best job of the jump up the bank. I would also have liked to have seen him going more freely forward as he looked a little stuffy.

However for his price and experience I am surprised you have not had any interest. Maybe have a strap line along 'super riding club horse'.

Lovely horse! Perhaps you've fallen into a bit of a black hole with regard to what people are looking for? His age will go against him if someone's looking for an eventer to bring on, and maybe people think an older horse of that size may have nearly come to the end of it's eventing life. He sounds like a true allrounder. But could you advertise him as a schoolmaster?

I've been looking for a horse recently and it always makes me wonder when the advert states 'not a novice ride'. While I understand perfectly that most horses aren't suitable for novices, unless he does something really naughty I'd leave that out. You can weed out real novices on the phone before wasting time with viewings.

The link to his record does not work it took me to mares, if his BE record is good ensure it can be found easily, 2 different prices in the ad will be off putting.
The phrase big, sensitive will also put people off it makes him sound very tricky, he may not suit a novice but unless he is really difficult you will lose interest from competent experienced people who may suit but will never bother to ring, he sounds lovely and with a few tweaks you should get some interest, weed out the nervous novices when they make contact don't put off everyone with that one sentence.

It may also be worth doing a full video showing him in all 3 paces on the flat and over a few fences, the one you show is ok but will not draw in anyone as the fences are technical and although he jumps them well enough they don't really show him properly.

I was looking for very similar up until recently but wouldn't have called about your boy for a couple of reasons.

Firstly the two different prices make me think you're having difficulty selling him and makes me question why, particularly given he's already fairly cheap for his sort. For reference I've paid nearly double that for my boy with a similar cv.

There seems to be a lack of flatwork pics. I would like to see at least 1 in any advert and ideally a video of them in w/t/c on both reins.

That video really doesn't do him justice. As others have said he looks really stuffy and a bit uncomfortable and he really makes a hash of that first fence. I'd either remove the video completely or film a new one.

He looks gorgeous and as someone else said he seems a little under priced for what he is. Very surprised you have had no interest. Hope you find him a good home soon.

Hi, he sounds lovely, although the adverts reads as if he has done things at some point rather than recently. If he has been out this year or last year it would be worth being specific about this.

For a horse of his age I would have been put off by him being a sensitive sort who is not suitable for Novice Riders.

It makes me think he is a bit silly, which will put a lot of people off who are looking for schoolmasters.

The price seems fair, but offputting to have 2 different ones, has he been for sale for a while? The home more important than price makes me think there is further negotiation.

I had OH have a look, he pointed out the video is from 2014, there is no flat work, and you are putting off 7/10 riders who are looking for schoolmasters, and the good riders will probably look for a youngster.

I would be put off the part that says sensitive/not suitable for a novice too. I have been riding 30+years but would never enquire about an advert that said that as I automatically translate it to mean the horse is a nutter.

He looks a really nice horse though so good luck selling.

First of all lovely horse! The only iffy thing I can see in the advert is the word 'sensitive'.
Not a novice ride or not suitable for novice would not put me off but when I see the word 'sensitive' I tend to translate it as 'hysterical' probably an unfair assumption admittedly but it happens nonetheless!

Agree he sounded like a nice competition schoolmaster until I reached that line at which point I imagined he was a bit of a fruit loop who may be difficult to ride.

Wow loads of great advice here! This is the only horse I have ever owned and the first time I have ever sold a horse so this is a great learning curve thank you. He has been up for sale since the beginning of March my parents and I were flapping - he was originally up for £3250 but we decided it was steep so I reduced it at the weekend not realizing j had put it at the bottom as well. Error!

He has been competing up until September last year then he had the winter off like he does every year because j hate riding in winter and he has been back in work since Jan. I bought a youngster and intended on running them both this year but as a newly qualified teacher time is not on my side and I am just not going to have the time for both. I cannot bear to see him wasted in the field - he is awesome! He is definitely not a nutter. I only put that as I did have a man enquire about loaning him. He came after bigging himself up saying he wanted to do some low level eventing and go do dressage and lessons and it was an absolute shambles. He fell off in canter, lovely roo was doing nothing wrong. He was someone I would describe as a novice rider. My brain then thought it was sensible to state he wasn't a novice ride to prevent people like him coming to see him. Maybe my idea of a novice rider is someone fresh from riding school - which he absolutely wouldn't be suited to.

I suppose I have been a bit of a dope not putting up videos from last season's events. I have 100000s of dressage tests I can put up so I'll do that. We are in shortage of flat work photos but I can see if someone can take some tomorrow?

I'd keep your price at £3250ono - I reckon those with 2.5k would possibly still make an enquiry.

I'd remove the sensitive/novice ride bit - you could put off a fantastic home. Quiz people a bit over the phone and if you haven't weeded them out that way, if they get on and it looks like a potential car crash just stop the viewing.

I'd emphasise he is sound, viceless and easy and ideally suited as a RC schoolmaster to give experience at BE80/90 level (as it's clear from his record he isnt a BE100 horse).

If that video is old then I'd replace it with something more current and showing all 3 disciplines (I didn't think it was too bad by the way, shows a quiet horse jumping more than well enough for the price tag).

he looked cheap to me till I read the sensitive not novice ride, that says to me he is spooky and a nutter and would put me off even though I have been riding for over 50 years and am used to nutty horses....if you remove that bit then £3250 together with saying home more important than price would seem to me about right... he looks a really nice type but I would also like more flat pics or videos and also a pic of him with no tack on from the side so conformation can be seen easily...

So small change:

Rupert is a 14 year old ISH X all rounder for sale through no fault of his own.

He has done a bit of everything over the seven years I have owned him, including: eventing up to BE100 and placings at BE90, winnings and placings in unaffiliated dressage up to novice, winnings and placings unaffiliated show jumping up to 1.05m, pleasure rides, hunter trials including pairs cross country, county showing classes including working hunter, endurance rides, side saddle and many lessons and clinics. He has been to pony club camp taking part in all PC activities and has represented the club at areas in the intermediate horse trials team.

Rupert is absolutely bomb proof to hack in the heaviest of traffic and doesn't get silly in open spaces. He is good to catch, box, shoe, clip. He is sound and vice free, ideally suited as an RC/PC all rounder.

Home far more important than price.

£2750 Ono with rugs.

This flatwork pic?

I really do have a shortage of them

I would take out the sentence "He has done a bit of everything over the seven years I have owned him, including:"

Instead put "a true all rounder" or similar. You are playing him down when you need to big him up, he is lovely! Nice pic and video, have you included an untacked side shot? Also good jumping pic?

I didn't get to see the jumping video, but I would rather see jumping than flatwork I think if I was after that kind of horse. Maybe you could link a good jumping video in your comments section for the flatwork one if you are only allowed one link in the ad.

Does he hack alone and in company, first and last? It's something I would expect to see for a safe to type and it not being in there makes me think he is only happy under certain circumstances.

I also agree with the person above that I would be inclined to expect most of the things he has done were longer ago from the current wording. Maybe add specific results from the last year if you have something positive to say?

He looks a nice horse at a good price .
But if I were looking I would be concerned that those may old videos for a reason .
If they are from last year say so clearly or include a current video showing walk trot and canter and his jumping an upright and a spread.
Some one is out there , keep telling everyone you meet your just as likely to to sell a horse by word of mouth .
