15hh tb mare, 20 years old (5th April) (acts like a 4 year old), Wetherbys registered, has been a broodmare, hacks alone and in company, is good in open spaces, will pop a jump, is fab in traffic, good to catch (comes to call), practically loads herself, is good with the farrier etc. Can be a little tetchy when having her girth done up but if done slowly she is fine.), easy to handle at all other times. Will come with tack. £500 ono

Without to sound rude or intrusive, why are you selling her? At 20yo you will have a hard time selling I think...

You also haven't stated if she would be good enough for a novice as I think that would be your best target at that age, as a well behaved been there done it older horse.

I would also ask a little bit more as for £500, I think you will be attracting a lot of dodgies....

Sorry, just my opinion.

Also, at 20yo do you think she would be suitable for use as a broodmare? if not then i would maybe take that bit out of the advert or else someone may want to get her to breed from her......... I am just of the opinion that this is a bit too old to be breeding from..... but again, others may disagree.

Hi,

Unfortuanatley I agree with Lucy_Notts - 20 is very old to be selling. And at £500 you may well attract people with less than the best intentions. I am a 'stand - by - your - oldies' kind of a person, but I realise that is an individual choice and cometimes people have circumstances that dont allow them to keep them, but really think carefully beofre you sell her. It may take time to sell her due to her age, but (after a few posts on here of people regretting selling thier older horses) please don't rush into letting her go to just anybody. Think about who you would 'ideally' sell her to - what they would want to do with her (broodmare (???), hack, companion, etc) and then target your advert to that type of person.

I don't know your circumstances but is there any chance you could loan her instead? Given her age you can't really ask for any decent money for her, but the low price tag will tempt unscrupulous people to buy her and sell her a week later with a bunch of lies about her age and a higher price.

She was brought to hack, school and possibly show and was going to be given a long term home. However due to unforseen family circumstances this is no longer possible (the lady who owns her has now had to have her mother move in with her as her health is deteriating rapidly and will now be a full time carer for her, aswell as having 2 young children, and having an illness herself). She could loan her but would have the risk of having no stable for her to come back to if ever the loaner wanted to send her back.

maybe long term loan? and vet the people thoroughly..........

or just ensure that the advert makes it clear what sort of buyer you are wanting/expecting and stand by them.

Or, if it came to it, maybe reitring her to the horsey blood bank or something like that might be an idea?? they get a fabulous home with loads of turn out and care etc and just used for blood taking occasionally to ensure there is sufficient stores for the equine hospitals and emergency surgery's etc........ so its a nice retirement with benefits! (obv if hte mare was skittish/hated being handled/needle shy etc this would prob not be the best idea!)

Sorry for the lady who is having to sell her as that can't be a nice situation to be in
