With winter aproaching i have been *considering* advertising for someone to help ride my horses- Mainly my daughters pony tbh as i am going to be very pushed for time (we dont have great lighting) but would like to keep on top of all 3- also would like some company occasionally!
My ideal would be a mature lady who is fairly light- maybe 9.5 stone max? who is quiet but competent (although actually my horse is very easy if i was to ride the pony so experience is not the be all and end all i guess) who can hack in the afternoons with me- happy for them to go alone if able once we get to know each other.
is this realistic or with the weight etc am i asking too much?
I have
15hh youngster who needs a more experienced rider as green and a bit nervous but not nasty or dangerous (daughters pony)
16.2 ex hunter with a soundness problem- would have to be a very special someone take him out alone as although very good he's a light hack ONLY and then only when he's ok
and a TB 16.1hh also very good, hacks alone or company.
The person could ride any of the above- ideally the smaller as the others are mine and i want to ride them!!!
Will i find someone? also i'm really worried about someone turning up and me not liking them or them being hard on my horses-
Worth advertising??

i think you will probably find someone although maybe dont be so specific about wanting a mature lady. A youngster may put off some older people as they dont fancy the idea of being thrown off if it was naughty. I would look at maybe a university student who is available due to lectures etc. I am 21 and i would happily take up your offer but i am already doing the same for a lady although it does involve re schooling him etc rather than just hacking! I know my horsey friends who had to let theres go before uni would jump at the chance

ah yes i didnt think of that so much.. although i would be very shocked if he threw someone off!
I dont mean mature as in old i just dont want kids thinking they can ride after school (no offense you any one younger!) 21 would be absolutely fine ;-)
That said he is ridden by my daughter who's only 11 but they have a brilliant friendship and she's played the main part in breaking him in. He needs someone quite sensitive

You're not asking too much at all and yes it is worth advertising. I needed the same as you - virtually word for word. I needed a lightweight adult rider taht was quiet but confident and that could handle a sharp, forwarding mare that could be spooky. I didn't think I'd find anyone but have been lucky enough to find two lovely ladies.

One lady is lovely and an average but capable rider - like me :D and the other is a fantastic rider - the kind I could only dream of being, got all her BHS stages, broken youngsters and run a livey yard, she has the most fantastic seat :).

They've both had their own horses' before but just can't afford the anymore.

I asked people to e mail me with details of their experience (so I've got in writing), then watched them ride in the arena just to make sure they had been on a horse before then we ventured out. Both my girls are good judges of character so I could tell straight away everyone was going to get on.

Just wish I'd done it year's ago!
