Advertising in H&H - experience/opinions please...

I want to advertise my foal for sale in Horse and Hound. This is mainly down to the fact that because of the things she has won/achieved, and the price we want, Horse and Hound is the only magazine I can see her selling from.

But what I want to know, is how many people have paid out the £150 for advertising, and not sold their horse? I have put a few lineage adverts, without pics in, before and not had a single phonecall. Do I risk a lineage advert for this foal, giving my website address and hoping that people will look up all the pictures and winnings on there? Or do I advertised her with a big coloured picture, and cross my fingers that she sells??

How have other people got on with advertising in Horse and Hound?

I have found that although not inundated with calls it has attracted serious buyers.
I've only sold riding horses though, not youngstock.

We have a lady at yard selling a nice unbroken 3yo at the moment, he went in this weeks with a colour photo in the youngstock section and has 2 viewings this weekend.

I think if you are looking to get a lot of money then it is worth investing in advertising properly

This is my sentiments exactly. She is a breathtaking foal, and has won a lot at county shows, so is definately worth what we want - I have seen other foals advertised for similar amounts, having not left the field they were born in.

I don't mind spending the £150 if she will sell, but it is a lot to spend and not even get any calls.

I personally think lineage in H&H is a waste of time - people who are looking to buy a horse want to see a pic and it's a bit of a hassle having to phone up, talk your way past the owner and actually have photos emailed.

If it's the foal in your sig that you're selling definitely go for a picture ad.

I sold an arabian yearling from a linage only ad in H&H , she sold for a good price and within a couple of days, to a super home.
I've also sold eventer type ID X TB youngstock through linage only ads. the longest time was 3 weeks, but that filly was a bit pricey.

I do think H&H is good. I have sold 2 through them very successfully (although funnily enough I have never bought one through them!). Your youngster sounds cracking and I think its worth spending the money personally

I am selling little Emae - have made the decision to put her in H&H next week.

I think there are so many horses for sale at the moment that you need to bite the bullet and go for a colour photo in H&H. Porblem is for £150 you still only get a smallish photo so really pick one where the lighting and background is right, so the foal stands out and catches the eye.
I dont think lineage ads are worth it IMHO.

We've had mixed success with H&H to be honest, and done far better with word of mouth. Some foals sold very quickly, some had not a single phone call.
