Adverts making me cross!

TBH that's about what I expect to see if going to view a weak for it's age 7yo for sale a dealers .

It might be what I would expect but that doesn't mean it is what I want to see. I actually think it's quite sad that this is what is to be expected. A green horse is fine, many of us would be fine with that, a green horse that is being ridden with a hand so heavy that the best option for the horse is to go quite a lot BTV just so it can be perceived as 'being in an outline' is not what I like to see.

And yes the horse is strapped down, not by auxiliary reins but by the riders hand, every time the poor horse tries to rebalance he gets his mouth pulled until he relieves the tongue pressure by going behind the contact

Having watched the short clip of this horse, I see it as a very green, weak horse that tends to be a bit of a 'banana'. Head up and working from the forehand. The rider, imo, is doing what they can to promote a sale, again, it is a short video but they are balanced, light and correcting the horse at the right times.

The horse is falling behind the bit from lack of muscle, balance and lack of flexion throughout the body. The rider is asking 'don't be stiff in your neck or drop onto your forehand' and the horse is saying 'it's really hard to lift my back and use my engine'.

Really nice sort of horse and I really don't have a problem with the rider at all. The horse just needs more correct work and I think in time that rider could do that but the horse is for sale so the rider is doing what they can to show the horses potential.

I'm not sure we can be watching the same video! The only potential I can see is a horse which has learnt to avoid the bit and pull itself along, probably with a back that will need remedial work!

A green horse cannot find its balance without allowing it to stretch its neck. As long a rein as is safe but still with contact in all the paces is necessary. "the rider is telling the horse not to be stiff in the neck " by making it stiffer. The horse is going btv in a vain attempt to avoid further jabs in the mouth.

It's just reality of what's normal for many horses .
Personally if you asked me to guess on that quick clip assuming there's no sinister reason the horse is that green at seven , give that horse the right management and the right training plan and I think he would go very nicely .

I tend to agree but am somewhat saddened that this is indeed normal for many horses, and that because of this becoming the norm, people do not realise that it is not good, will not know that the animal will need different management and different training and so it will go on....

I just wonder how many times he actually clattered that blue/wite spread as we never actually see him go over it, the video always cuts away just before take off.

Yes sure he'd make a nice horse, not disputing that but don't you think it's sad that this is normal for many horses?

There is no wonder people think this is ok, if it us the norm then people just aren't used to seeing good riding and then they think it's ok to ride like this and it's a vicious cycle

Tbh I have been round the block too many times to get uptight about that ad , I have seen much worse .
I agree with PM that bucking might be this horses thing , I would really want to understand why it's so green at seven .
I hope the horse finds a nice home , I am forgiving of horses training faults ( within reason ) when I buy as I am interested in the journey with them .
A horse just has to interest me.
I am not buying the rider .

I agree, i had a stint of working with a 'wannabe' showjumper/horse dealer and he bought many horses from place like this one... they openly admit that most of these horses come over from the continent to compete at a few shows then be sold on as quickly as poss, flatwork isn't a huge priority. I think this rider looks decent, he probably gets on and off many many horses a day and is just trying to show the best he can using a few 'tricks'. While i don't really like his style personally, i don't see anything nasty, and i know i'm definitely not a perfect rider, especially on horses i don't know.

I quite like the horse and it's pretty much going as i would expect it to from a big dealing yard.

And the horse is being pushed onto the forehand by the rider who tips forward on the flat. IME it is very rare to see a horse which is for sale being well-ridden.

I agree with this, but to be honest, I know that if I filmed myself riding it wouldn't be perfect, and I am sure there would be plenty of faults to pick at. I don't agree with the riding in the video, especially if they are a pro dealer rider, but I suppose they don't get regular lessons and riding so many different horses you are bound to pick up some bad habits, even with just one horse you can!

He's not supporting the horse, he's constantly subtly socking it in the mouth to get its head in. Rider's not even happy with OTV - apparently it looks nicer to be behind :)

^^^this

Every time it tries to see where its going he pulls it's head down again, horrible horrible way to do things. Poor bloody horse

Can anyone link to the ad?? These guys are down the road from me, i'd be interested to know what they are asking for it : )

I thought that too!

Why did they need to edit the video so much?
An hurt had woukd show w,t,c on both reins and a couple if jumps in one sequence, no pauses or stops in the video!
