I have a pair of 5 year old Heiniger Progress clippers, they have been regularly maintained and were last serviced this summer, so far they have done 1 clip since the last service. This morning I went to clip my pony and the clippers suddenly emitted a very soft 'pop' and died. I have tried the reset button and changed the fuse in the plug with no success. Is it worth having them repaired or is it time for a new set of clippers? If so what is the best to get? Has anyone got any experience with Huntmaster Pro? Thanks

My Liveryman Arena clippers have just died due to the fuse blowing in them, same as yours, just cut out and wouldnt start up. I sent them to be evaluated for cost of repair and the amount I paid for them second hand (£200) plus cost of repair (£120) meant was more worthwhile getting a new pair. I'd suggest getting someone to look at them and tell you how much repair would be - I recommend Clipper Sharp as they had a look, told me the cost, and posted back to be for £9.50. Really friendly people too.

I'm a little wary of clipper sharp tbh, a friends blades have gone blunt after 2 light clips and my clippers came back from then 4 months ago and have just died...

Oh, :/ I've never had a problem with them with sharpening blades they have always come back really sharp. I've never used them for services but I know people who have, with good feedback. Think it varies so much doesnt it? I had my clippers serviced by another company and they didnt even pick up that my fuse had gone. Would be interesting to know who people reccomend for servicing then maybe??

Maybe I was just unlucky, however as I don't actually know what's wrong with them yet it may still *keeping everything crossed!* be a minor issue.

Having had a look around has anyone got a set of Masterclips? I think that heiniger blades fit on these so it may be prudent to get a set of these as I have 4 sets of blades (2 bought the other day - typical!)?

I'd get them checked in the hope it's a minor problem, I used and abused my progress clippers for 10 seasons using them for many more horses than their intended light use before they died. I bought new clippers and will get them repaired when I have the money and keep them as spares. If they are 5 years old, well mantained and lightly used I'd hope to keep them going.

Do not buy the Masterclip clippers. Or the cordless ones made by the same company with a different name. They are RUBBISH. You have to spend ages fiddling about with the blades to make sure they are set to the correct height. Completely bizarre setup. I've been clipping ponies for 25 years and found them a complete waste of time and money. You would be better of using a bic razor they are that bad!! Took my friend and I 8 hours, yes 8 hours to clip her Welsh Section A. Avoid at all costs.

Forgot to add you have to watch a video on how to set the blades up before you use them, and they still don't work!!

Oh fiddlesticks :( I've just spent £60 on 2 new sets of blades for the heinigers... Why is it all the expensive things break at the same time?

Where is the fuse on the progress clippers?
