Hi all really need your help im stuck in a situation
how hard is it to get a pony off leid rein not a child

recently my son moved onto 2nd pony which we have on loan however loan is only short term & i dis a gree with something in the contract which could cost me £££££ if anything ever happened to the pony but pony is fantastic, ive just been offered another pony to buy off a friend at a bargain price i no the pony well but where pony 2 has been on loan i will have to buy unseen but i no the lady & no she is telling me the truth about pony 2 she dont want her loaners to no shes selling up (thats none of my buisness) pony 2 was off leid with her but has not been in loan home a riding school is forward going (perfect!) but follows the owners everywhere when trying to come off leid i can only have 1 in my home so im thinking do i send pony 1 back & buy pony 2 taking a chance but then if pony 2 canot cope with coming off lead (hes not a stubbon pony at all & was ridden un leaded in owners hime) then im stuck back to square 1 with very very 1st pony who i have put on lwvtb who was stubbon & wouldnt jump or come off leid

my question is i can only have 1 pony do i send 1 back & buy pony 2? is it very hard to get a pony to come off leid rein? if its not then im happy to buy but i no it normally depends on the pony hes not stubbon listerns to the rider i deont want son to be left with a pony which wont jump a course or lisern in the school

Some are ok off lead and others will not move a step without a leader and have not been trained off lead at all and many have never cantered with a rider or even respond to aids from a rider apart from basic steering

If the pony was schooled well off the lead before he went to his latest home you could be ok

Personally though I wouldn't take on a pony I hadn't trialled, a decent safe kids pony is worth a decent price so I'd be worried about buying a cheap one untried

It sounds like neither pony is ideal so in your shoes I would either try to negotiate with the owner of pony 1 and have whatever you disagree with removed from the contract or send pony 1 back and look for a new pony that is proven off the lead rein and that you can view before you buy.

I definitely wouldn't be buying a potential lead rein pony unseen, particularly one that seems to just follow the owner when taken off the lead rein as you may find it becomes nappy when asked to work independently. I'd also question just how honest someone is that is selling the pony from underneath their current loaner without warning but that's just me.

I do no the owner & brought our very very 1st pony off her shes honest & dont want him in a riding school which i completely understand as i didnt with one i just put on loan so i completely trust her anyone else i woudlnt even think about it but with her i 100% would as i trust her & do no she`ll only tell me the truth (i do no the probs shes having with the loaner nothing to do with the pony)
Pony 2 i think im going to have a re chat with her see what hes excatly done off lead rein & how much hes type of pony a rider tells him & he goes oh ok ill do it but son ejoys jumping & pony 2 must be able to go round a course of small jumps no problem without me being the runner & getting out of breath!
