Advice and Vibes for Joey Please

Joey's been in now for a week and he has not improved with his lameness issues.

He has been poulticed, but with nothing being drawn out, he has been on Danilon and something else which, once again I can't remember the name of.

Vet is coming back tomorrow, as is farrier we hope.

Does anyone have any ideas? There is a little heat in the foot, though not much, he flinches when pressure is pushed against the area surrounding the frog, he has varying stages of lameness in that when he is removed from his stable to clean him out he doesen't appear to sore, the more he moves, the sorer it gets. Also, when moving around his stable, he barely puts weight on it if he can help it. This is when on the drugs.

Really very worried and would appreciate vibes.

I don't have any useful advice im afraid but i am sending LOTS of healing vibes to the little dude. Give him a gentle hug from me and good luck with the vet tommorrow xx

Ravenwood - Was my initial thought, but the longer it's lasted the less likely that seems. Vet seemed very sure it wasn't an abcess.

lots of healing vibes other than a abcess,punture wound which is ruled out if nothing been drawn i really dont know backs and pelvic areas i can do but feet im very dark area on.

only 2 other things i could think of is navicular or lami but i dont know a great deal regarding either but they are the only 2 things that spring to mind.

Lots of vibes sorry i could not be more help hope all is well keep us posted as i would be interesting in the outcome and diagnosis if any.
 
Vibes for Joey - Hugs for you, sounds very peculiar, farriers are good at spotting things, picked up on some queer goings on with my girls foot.

James_08, definitely not laminitis. He's had it in the past and this is nothing like he's had. It is also only in one foot and unless it's severe concussion laminitis, which I doubt, i can't see it would be.

Well if he is tender in the foot its usually an abcess or bad bruising if lami is ruled out. Fingers crossed and you get to the bottom of it soon.
 
Yep - it certainly doesn't hurt to get lots of opinions. I can't remember which one is Joey - is he old?

How are you getting on with Shadow?
 
I reckon the farrier will have to dig deeper to find the cause and it will turn out to be pus in the foot.
Our farrier was telling me this has been the worst year in his experience for it, and he thinks the constant wet but warm conditions are to blame.
We've had more cases than usual too.
Our last one had several farrier visits and the vet, but nothing could be found, the following day the pus burst out of the coronary band!
They are reluctant to give a-b because it makes the pus thicker and harder to drain, but once it's found it soon clears up.
It does sound like that with pain deep in the hoof and heat, poor chap, he must feel so sore.
 
My friends horse was lame and we called the vet who couldn't find anything wrong.

It was another four weeks and two vets visits later that we found she had an abcess.

My own horse went extremely lame towards the end of the first year she had laminitis. The vet advised me to rest her for 3 weeks but still lame - at end of fourth week, found her in field holding leg up barely able to walk - it had been an abcess all along.

Yours sounds very similar, so don't rule out the possibility of an abcess. If it happened to me again, I'd call the farrier first.

To be honest it would be a relief for it to be an abcess.

HH - That's very interesting, I hadn't thought about it like that. Hopefully my farrier can find the cause.

Ah bless - well lets just hope it is an abcess after all - although its horribly painful, at least its curable and quickly over once it comes out.
 
Friends horse on the yard was very similar early in the year 1stly we all thought abcess so she poulticed and stabled farrier came and had a dig nothing at all vet came and had a look and nothing to see other than the fact the horse was crippled ( no lumps or heat or anything) she was on 2 bute a day and still really lame. Vet came again and nerve blocked and confirmed in her foot and we all started to think she had broken a bone, the vet was coming back the next day to xray ( by this point we were 8 days on 2 vet visits and a farrier visit and still no idea) and over night black pus came out her coronet band loads of it. Took a while to heal over but as soon as the puss came she was almost sound. Will keep everything crossed for you that it is as simple as that and you get some puss!!!!!!
 
I would still be inclined to think it was an abscess. They are pains in the arse! My horse suffered several times last year, one time we had farrier out - he couldn't find anything, vet out, still nothing, got a physio as thought mayeb his shoulder - nothing! Comes round to shoeing time again, farrier has a dig around (2nd time) and finds there was an abscess that had worked its way right round the foot!

Horse also suffered again last summer and was off for 5 weeks (v frustrating) cos we couldn't get to the bottom of it again. An abscess was eventually found (even though farrier could not feel any heat in the foot) but it just wouldn't drain properly and we had to resort to antibiotics to totally get rid of the infection!

Def get the farrier back to have a good dig about, abscesses can be v tricky to locate sometimes!
 
Sending loads of vibes to Joey. Our donkey ws hopping lame earlier in the year, vet thought it was an abcess but couldn't find anything. Poultice didn't draw anything out but eventually it burst out at the coronary band

Although it wasn't pretty he made a fairly quick recovery . Hopefully it is just a really deep abcess with Joey and the farrier will be able to find it.

Sorry for quoting the whole quote but this is pretty much what is happening with mine at the moment;
He had an 'old' abscess according to the farrier which he though he'd only found remnants of so he advised to poultice and rest. Did that, nothing came out and horse still lame. Given antibiotics, still lame. Played a waiting game as suspected badly bruised sole. Still lame 10-14 days later whilst on low dose bute. Farrier came and looked at the same time as the foot was xrayed and lo and behold they found the 'old' abscess which had never drained

xrays showed it had been there at least a few weeks and possibly months and he had cartilidge damage as a result. They dug a bigger hole and it finally started to drain out. Now on the end of a 10 day run of antibiotics and is sound (fingers crossed) and happy again

I wouldn't rule out the abscess yet either.

They are such a pig abscesses aren't they - I have thought the worst with my horse each time, had the vet do a full check to see if he was developing anythinge lse (ruingbone etc) as he's getting on a bit but he is fine, he just ahs cr*ppy feet!

actually, jsut ahd same probn with my old pony,. He trrod on galss when out hacking and I thought was nothing in there but it must have been. Well over a week later we find pony not wanting to put his hind leg down at all and walking like he was in serious agony (looked higher up than his foot) We never even considered his foot TBH and called the vet. He took off the shoe and found a big, deep abscess (bad bad owner i am!). You could almost see the relief in my pony's face when the pressure was released!
 
My pointy abscess vibes were obviously not strong enough last time.

Vet and farrier are still stumped, vet says more box rest and more poulticing.
