So it has been 3 weeks and 2days now since I broke mine - I have been riding for a week and jumped last night without any pain. It only hurts if I lift my arm up high or across but just muscle pain.

So have a hunter trial Sunday (PN height) to prepare for PN at Munstead the Sunday after, am I mad?!!

Also in New Lounge

Just that everyone at my yard is like oooo you cant do that its too soon what happens if you fall off! And bearing in mind I have never ridden him XC.

But I could fall off at any point riding really and was just going to take it slowly anyway

Well it doesnt hurt in general and even when I was jumping it didnt hurt.

Im just worrying incase I fall off but thats the risk at anytime isnt it

I think you will be fine. I broke mine when i was a kid but carried on pretty soon. Like DD says, it probably depends on your brake but if it doesn't hurt, I think go for it!

Yup! But depends on the horse, and your overall fitness! I fthey will pull I think I need a green sicky smiley for the thought of pulling and broken collabrone -ouch"

You must have broken yours 3 days before me!
Sounds exactly like me - pain wise, I jumped for the 1st time since I'd broken it yesterday & felt absolutely fine!
Have also been riding all week too & from how I'm feeling now, I wouldn't say you'd be mad to do it!!
If I'd had the choice, I'd be doing West Wilts intro this weekend, but mum withdrew me

Also - I find it really weird that it's only muscular pain! Do you?

I don't want to put a dampener on your plans - but do remember there are bones knitting together in there and although the pain goes very quickly it doesn't mean it has healed. I was back riding after 4 weeks - had an xray at 6 weeks which clearly showed that whilst it was going the right way it wasn't totally healed. The difference at 8 weeks was amazing.
If you were asking about going out to do dressage or a pop round some smaller sj's I'd say go for it but you are going XC on a horse you have never XC'd before. If he pulls you will be very sore afterwards......and of course if you were to fall off on it you would be right back to square one with it and may even need it plating.
Sorry this is not the advice you were looking for....

You are very lucky, I broke mine in 2004, couldn't ride for 12 weeks because it didn't knit back together. In fact it is still broken now but the break doesn't hurt, just get an achy arm as one shoulder is about 3 inches lower than the other!!

If you are happy with it and happy with the risk I don't see why you shouldn't go xc!

i broke mine when when we were playing tag in the arena - the pony slipped and fell over with me still on top!

it took 4 weeks for me to heal, and i started riding stright away - although my collarbone isnt very straight! sort of goes
