Help! I am currently in the process of trying to find "the perfect horse"! I want to do a bit of everything but with an emphasis on eventing. Any tips/hints/suggestions gratefully received!
All i can say is that I was always saying I didnt like coloureds and look what I ended up with! I dont think I will ever get anything other anymore! My first horse years ago was meant to be a middle wieght hunter type and I came back with a TB!
Be open minded but dont comprimise on the basics like temperarment, suitabiblty ect.
You will know when you sit on a horse if it feels right!! Good luck keep us posted!
Just be open minded, and as shawny said, every horse has their faults! just like people!
try lots of different horses if u can, as u may find that the type of horse u have imagined in your head isnt the one you thought would be right for you, and also u want to have a variety to pick from, not just go for the first one u try.
the best thing to do is buy locally too. ask around your yard, local riding centres, friends, family etc to see whos selling their horses as its much easier i have found. a seller who lives near by is easier to contact if you find you have problems with your horse if you purchase it, and if hes nearby you can go and try him a few times before deciding to buy him.
Also, if hes a local horse, you'll be able to ask around other horsey people to see if they know this horse and ask what its really like! the seller may describe him as a schoolmaster, while other people who know this horse may say different!
i could go on forever, but id probably bore you!lol!
good luck with your search, hope you find something soon!
was thinking the same as thegreatescape!!! When i was looking for my horse, I did NOT want a chestnut or and arab.....I got a chestnut who is 50% arab!!! really keep your eyes peeled...there is a little star waiting for everybody!! And one more thing most people will tell you not to buy the first horse you look at, look around and be open minded...I can't say I followed this as i bought the first horse i looked at!!
Excellent advice - I will follow it closely. Hoping to rope a few friends in to help as been out of the loop for a while so all need as much help as possible!
echo al the above - you will know when you sit on the horse whether its right for you - i wanted a fine built 7-11yr old safe forward well schooled horse to buy and ended up with a 14 yr old welsh sec D that was spooky and never been schooled on loan!!!!
