Me and my partner are desperate for a dog. Whilst visiting relatives today, they had recently acquired a miniature Jack russell puppy, and he was just gorgeous.
So we are now really thinking about getting one, so wanted to see what people think of our situation, and whether it is feasible.
We live in a flat, but it is not a nasty high rise, but is only one of two in a lovely old converted bleachworks estate. We have a shared garden which is enclosed, and an older lady of about 60 lives below us. It is very countryfied and rural.
I am at university atm studying for a postgrad, but will hopefully be in full time work by the end of the year. My partner works strange hours and can be in all day, but then out in the evening, but he does have 2 full days where he works like 12 hours.
I keep my horses at my parents farm which is 20 mins away, and I could potentially drop him off there when we have full days (parents willing) my parents have 2 dogs as well, we are experienced with dogs, and I have had dogs all my life, so not a novice...
Technically we are not supposed to have pets in the flat (its in a contract) but we have had degus in there before and no one has noticed. I know a dog is slightly different, will be going in and out and may bark etc... but we are hoping to move house the not too distant future. We would ask the lady downstairs first and if she wasnt okay with it we wouldnt even go for it.
Does this sound at all do-able, and does anyone know what minature jr are like? We are also looking at crosses like jack-apoodles and border terrier cross jack russells.
I want something to take with to do the horses, take in the lorry etc, take for lots of walks and generally love and enjoy, but which we can leave sometimes and isn't too noisy...
Any input gratefully received.
