I own a 4 yr old part bred arab mare and a 14 yr old welsh sec d gelding. My mare is incredibly sweet 95% of the time until she's in season. She then becomes irritable and unsettled and isn't happy to be out of the field although she will come in. I have tried a herbal remedy for the last 3 months which doesn't seem to have done the trick. She is lead mare in the field and my gelding is very high up in the herd.

This means that when she comes into season, I can't get my gelding out of the field (no problem actually catching him but I struggle to get him away from the mares). Unfortunatley, at my current yard there isn't the option to separate the mares and geldings and moving yards would be a last resort due to the convenience of the location as I work full time. Also, as my mare is out with geldings, her seasons tend to last longer.

A new horse has arrived (who is about 4 I think) and only recently been gelded (2-3 weeks ago). I suspect that although he is in a separate (but adjacent) field, this has made the problem worse.

I am going to do a lot more groundwork with my gelding to gain more respect from him so that I don't struggle as much with him running back to the mares but also wondered whether there were any other supplements out there which may help my mare. Has anyone tried oestress?

ive got a d mare who has hormonal issues, shes perfect to ride but the second she comes into season gets swollen ovaries and i cant physically stop her,no brakes at all.gave her oestress and she calmed down so much it saved her,

my other mare was on hormonise but that didnt work on above mare, they are very different so its a game of different supplements but would recommend both!

good luck

Thanks for the advice, it's definitely worth a try then! She's already back to her usual 'butter wouldn't melt' self!

I recently put my mare on Oestress and it has worked amazingly!!
We recently moved yards and she is now in with a Gelding, we have come to realise he must also be a bit riggy as she kept bending down for him to mount her and he would hop right on  (she had to bend down due to her being a 16.3hh TB and him being a 14.2 irish cob :o still puzzled as to how he manages to get up there with little effort!!)
This was happening about 4 times a day when she was in season so obviosuly something had to be done, and I wanted splitting the herd to be the last resort!

Since putting her on the Oestress she is like a different horse! She has her seasons but you wouldn't even know she was in season, AT ALL!! She is like a totally different horse so would 100% recommend it :D

I've had quite good success with oestress too. My mare is very sensitive and at her worst would try and kick me when i tried to groom her as she didn't want to be touched. Since being on it she's like a different horse and seems a lot happier. And we had a stallion move in the next field during this but she's still fine.

Global herbs- Moody Mare. It really worked for my mare, and the herbs lasted a long time! Good value And fab results! :) hope this helps xxx

Was going to post a similar thread! My mare has horrible seasons. She is such a sweetheart the rest of the time, but during her seasons she is a witch with a b!! Had a tantrum last night where she decided to pull away from me when I was trying to close the gate, added in a huge flying buck for good and fortunately I turned away as she caught me very hard on the shoulder which is now really sore! Soooooo off to get her some Oestress I think...

Oeastress works really well for my mare. She's a right grumpy git without but much more manageable on it

Thanks everyone! Off to buy some oestress now so fingers crossed it'll work as well for her as it seems to have for some of your horses :)

I found the everyday/feel good 30 moody mare was best suppliment u could buy, although tried naff magic which has been ok too. Also trying d&h moody mare.at mo, and given its.cost.seems to have taken the edge off a little bit.
Have tried. All sorts. Mag based tryptophan based!! In all honesty the best thing was regumate from vet :-( and if brought in large bottle worked out simmilar price to most suppliments!! X

Just bought the oestress and read on the side that it can be used for geldings showing rig-like behaviour! Anyone tried this or know someone who has???

didnt know that!My gelding does not so dont have to worry about it.

isnt regumate banned in showing tho?just bulk ordered her 2.5kg box of oestress.just come into season and she lets me touch her everywhere, couldnt touch teets or behind the saddle, defo the best supplement weve tried and weve tried a few.magic did nothing and moody mare did the same im afraid for ours.
