I'm not too sure what to do about Tont - when I ride him, I have practically no control.

He's not too bad on hacks, as when he's following another horse he's ok, it's just when he gets an idea in his head you have a real fight in your hands. But when I try and school him in the field (we have no arena), the only direction you can get him to go in is towards the shelter - at fast canter.

I currently ride him in a thick, jointed eggbutt snaffle. Whips just cause him to freak out, and schooling just doesn't work. He also was badly abused and neglected as a youngster, so you have to be very careful not to lose his trust. He's 14, but has only been backed fro just

He really is a little bugger, but on the ground he is the sweetest pony so he makes up for it

If you have any advice on what might help, or any bits that would be worth trying, I would be extremely grateful :D

Thank you, Nicole :)

Get an instructor out to see what is going on and to help you deal with it. It is very hard to say how you should deal with it without seeing the two of you together.
If thats not possible when in the feild and he sets off back try to circle him.
