I bought her roughly 8 weeks ago. For the first 5 weeks she didn't have a season, and was an absolute dream. Shes only a baby at 4 years old and I love her to pieces, however these last 3 weeks, shes had 2 seasons about 1 week apart.

The first day of the season she is very tucked up and I almost think its painful for her as I cannot ride her when shes in season, she plants herself, she doesn't react if someone tries to make her move from behind and she seems like she doesn't feel the stick..she just wont move.

Now I want to help her, if its painful for her I want to help but also I wont be able to plan anything for her if I don't know whether or not she'll be in season.

Have been suggested Regumate.. Would the insurance cover this for a year? (general question).

Any experience with a mare like this in season? Shes such a beautiful mare and I want to make her right, its so weird :(

I'm afraid I don't have personal experience of this, but my old instructor had problems with her eventing mare who she could not sit on when the mare came into season, as it was too painful for the mare. She ended up having marbles inserted into her vulva and it being stitched up (brings tears to your eyes!). I believe it did help, think this proceedure is called a Caslicks.

No I believe you can as the stitches can be taken out, I believe the mare who had it also had problems taking in air through her vulva.

My girly is like this...

My first choice would be a scan - it cost £42 plus call out and exam fee for the scan. Its done rectally as a warning!

That will show if there are any abnormalities on the ovaries.

Second (optional) would be a blood test to check hormone levels (though not sure if that useful)

Then I would look at the options. I personally would chose a marble over regulate, simply because you are not pumping artificial hormones into them. However marbles can be expelled though it is reversible in future for breeding. The other option is to try supplements first - Frisky Mare but Global herbs or NAF Oestress etc. Or a plain agnus castus...and see how it goes.

Bought some hormonise for her at HOYS after speaking to an expert. It has Agnus Castus in it so ill see how it goes!
Hopefully it'll sort my girly out <3

Thank you everyone xx
