Hi everyone

First post and thought I'd use it for something useful!
So. I need a new hat, but I have quite a big head and find that my current hat makes it look even bigger (I got it when I was at an age where I didn't really care, I just wanted a pretty velvet hat with the deerskin strap!).
So if anyone has any ideas for something quite elegant looking that I could also use for competition any advice would be gratefully appreciated :) Have a loan horse coming soon so felt it was a good time to upgrade!
Like the look of the Champion Ventair but it also looks quite round if that makes any sense so I don't know if it would help with my head looking huge issue!

Thank you

Thank you, that one looks promising!
I think I will go hat hunting this weekend, or maybe I can find one at Blair Atholl HT next weekend too :)

I love my Champion Ventair - looks much less domey than the more classical looking riding hats on me as I also have a MAHOOSIVE head :) Very lightweight also, not as ventilated as I'd have expected, but better than the other hats I've had before :) xx

Domey! That is the word I was looking for! :)
I never really thought about the hugeness of my head until an instructor gasped in shock when she went to put on my hat to jump on my horse. "7 and an eighth!! My goodness your head is like a man's!"
Needless to say that stayed with me and now I am very self-conscious...ha.

 I'm the same size!! :p Never realised I had a big head xx

I have a ayre 8 which i love and also looks good. I think i have a big head 7 and something hat size so i am very concious of what i look like in a hat. this is great

Hi there, I have just today bought a new Champion Ventair- really good because it looks smaller than most hats. However after having it fitted in the shop i am now at home wearing it around the house and its hurting my head, the next size up was way to big for me. So just wondering how much do you think it will squash down? Purple Stripe you said you have one aswell how long did it take for ures to mould to your head shape and did it feel tight at first? Thank you:)

Yep, felt tight at first, also a bit odd.. in a way I can't describe! :p I've had it 2/3 weeks so far, and after getting warm in it while riding and on the yard a couple of times, it's been fine and feels very comfy!! I think the thing to do is get yourself working up a sweat a little bit in it so it warms up and squashes a little bit at first, then carry on wearing it for a weeny bit longer afterwards. Do this a couple of times and then it's fine! Not pleasant at first but move past that and I've found it fine! :) Perhaps you could loosen off the harnessing at the back a weeny bit, also? Undo it, put it on your head and then tighten it until it feels snug but bearable. Then after you wear it tighten it accordingly as it loosens off :) xx
