Hi everyone,
I have a 14.2 welsh D who is now about 19 years old. hes getting a bit stiffer in his hinds at the moment and am looking at getting something to help him. hes not in any pain with this so id prefer to keep him off any actual medication. unless anyone knows of anything that's good?

so ive been told about no bute? but dont know anything about it. hes been on glucosamine before, had him on this for about a year and a half and didnt notice any difference. so have taken him off it.

so if anyone has any advice of what i could give him id really appreciate it.

hes currently ridden about 3-4 days a week. depending on what im doing and weather permitting for about 45mins. mainly flat work and hacking, but have been over the odd jump once in a blue moon when the grounds dry.

Couple of my oldies have devils claw granules - same as no bute i think, and they get on really well with it. I use dodson and Horrell stuff.

Linseed has completely loosened up my arthritc cob who has stiff hind legs...took a while to start noticing but he's a lot better:) now trying boswellia as well!

thanks everyone,

if anyone has any more suggestions keep them coming :)
i'm trying to do loads of research on it to find the best one... but im thinking trial and error may be the way?

I tried a few different supplements, what works for one won't always work for another. I use cosequin for my arthritic oldie, it used to help him but now wondering if it still does.

cortaflex is the only supplement that worked for my old tb ,his stifle was so stiff he could barely bend it ,after a week on a loading dose of cortaflex he could do a dressage test! i really was sceptical and tried lots of different ones but it really worked for him. i think its a bit of trial and error to find the one that works for you:)

this was my mare Vet said bute. This I did for a while but didnt like disguising the pain. I switched to flexijoint . 98% improvement, my mare came off bute and her flexibility and ability changed within a short time.

So I would say try for a month , They give you a money back guarantee . Just read some of the reviews here by previous readers of H&H http://equinecare-and-control.weebly.com/a.html

i have used boswellia on my arthritic mare and i am very pleased with the results. I recommend getting it from natural horse supplies as i have tried cheaper versions but i noticed they smell strongly and she wont eat it!

I've found amazing results with Cortaflex. Expensive but it really does work wonders, made a huge difference to my horse - completely changed him!
A lot of people compare Cortaflex to NAF's Superflex, which is cheaper and I've found this to work very well too - not as amazing as the cortaflex in my case, but my boy has very dodgy joints after they took quite a battering in his youth (not from me!) so the superflex may be great for yours if it's only the early stages of stiffness :)
Haven't had any experience with magnetic boots so can't really comment on those.

I feed my mare linseed and rosehips for her joints. She can get stiff and her hocks used to click but they dont any more. Shes 19 and competing at Medium level dressage.

I use suppleaze gold on my 19yr old along with devils relief for any discomfort. Was doing well on this but got reccomended rosehips. He had been on these for around a month now, along with the others, and is more supple than ever.

Heard linseed is good aswell but not tried it as he already on 4 supplements along with his yea sacc.
