The stallion I have on livery is a gentleman in every way.Unfortunately the only mare on the yard is an out and out tart who is in season from spring till winter. She's in season now so I have to juggle turning out and move her to the top yard when Vivaldi is turned out. Although he's good he is getting a wee bit excited and strong to handle having the mare in season perfume wafting up his nose so I plastered his nostrils with Vicks. It worked (for the moment anyway)! What I'd like to know is, will it be okay to use it on a daily basis without irritating him ? If so, what can I use instead? Other problem is the Italian equivalent of the famous Scottish midgie, theyre eating his balls off. Will using anti fly gel or spray irritate in the long run and if so, what can I use? Thanks in advance, Mairi.

Vicks everyday - he will have the clearest lungs in Italy!!!!! Seriously it should not irritate him, but keep an eye out for it. Same goes for the fly spray.

Hiya! We've been advised to use a product called Sebacil for the flies. It needs to be diluted and goes an awefully long way. It's non irritating and lasts ages on the horse.
I can't be certain that it'll work on Italian midgies but it works on everything we have in France and that's saying something!!
Good luck with the vicks. My nan used it daily and it never did her any harm!

hiya im from the west coast in Scotland and the best thing i have found and i know fellow Scottys will agree is Avon Skin - so - soft dry oil spray in forest pine or somthing like that cant remember exactly what its called, if that helps.

Thanks guys
