Well. How odd.

I was dreaming about my very thin filly, fretting about how to put weight on her, when my very long time dead Grandad appeared (in the dream). He handed me a bottle of Guinness....it was one those really old style bottles that you see in antique markets sometimes....and told me to put a drop of that in her feed every day. He said 'that'll soon build her up' and then he wandered off and I woke up.

The thing is he was a good horseman in his time, he looked after the horses and mules in the army through WW1. He died over 30 years ago, he helped me learn to ride when I was a child.

I'm a bit spooked but I'm going to take his advice (and it really is about 5.30 am...can't get back to sleep now).

Iv had one dream come try before, my dream was that my bother ran away from home and I knew the lay out off the whole day even do it the people we meet and where we would find him. So when it came true how shocked I was. Everything was spot on and I told mum where he would be. Wish I hadn't as she thought I was involved and grounded me to. Will never forget that.
So go for it and let us all know. Although there's more modern ways to help with weight gain it would now be interesting to see if it works

gala,

Blimey! In my youth we had a donkey. He'd been gifted, and arrived with the advice that he liked Guinness, but with the proviso that he should be restricted to two pints, or he'd start a fight!!

It can't do any harm, assuming that your filly will take it. Give it a try!

Alec.

friends pony was really ill and lost alot of weight- when she was better and back in the field recovering she got a can of guiness a day to build her back up again it worked really well she put all the weight back on again and came off the huiness when she was getting porky :)

Odd! My mum's been trying to make me drink guinness the last few days for the iron!! Apparently it has lots of iron in it? Suppose she's fed up of having to do the mucking out because I can't.....
It tastes awful though, so I'm waiting for the iron tablets thanks! :p

Will be curious to see if it works :)

Alec, can't stop laughing about the donkey getting leary on a couple of pints!! Visions of donkey staggering around with his hooves up shouting ' DO YA WANT SOME? C'MON THEN' and then passing out and waking up with a hangover. Like Phil Mitchell.

I've just found a bottle of Guinness in the kitchen left over from a do, so I'll take it to the yard this morning and see if Madam likes it. Oh god I'll be mixing cocktails for her next.

Yes it's funny about dreams isn't it? I've had a few that were prophetic. I did dream 4 lottery numbers once, they all came up. Never done it since though, sadly.

Edited to say..Sol...put blackcurrant with the Guinness, it's delicious.

If you could tell me next weeks lottery numbers I would be verrry grateful ;)

Hope she likes it! :D

Sirena, exactly!! I mean, I haven't thought about my Grandad for a long while (to my shame) but there he was giving me sound good old fashioned advice. It IS spooky.

Guinness for iron, yes, I was given it in hospital when I had my son, they said it was good for nursing mothers.
