HI i have tis car and i do not know how to find out if it is good enough to tow a single trailer and my horse he is approx 500 kg. Please can someone give me some advice he is excellent to load and loves journeys and would only be for small journeys say 5-10 miles at a go.

any help would be great many thnaks

also i thought i might look for a 4x4 LPG anyone any info on any of these or know any for sale would be MARVELOUS

You need to contact your car dealer to find out what weight the vehicle can tow, or, if you have the handbook, it should tell you in there. Then you need to find the weight of your trailer from the manufacturer and add the weight of the horse. If its less than the vehicles max towing weight then you are Ok

i had a passat est 1.9 tdi auto. and i towed my ifor single trailer with my 500kg horse in it - it was witihin legal limits - it did tend to hang onto second gear and i had to use to tiptronic to push up into third gear, nice car but i did swop for a landrover.

We used to use ours with a borrowed single IW on occasions and it worked well. The owners of the trailer also towed it with the same model car and with a Passat estate.

Just a word of caution - I learnt the hard way that "legal" limits are not necessarily safe limits - please take the trouble to find out what your car can safely tow and don't risk it - ending up sideways on the road is not good for your nerves and will do little to help your horse's confidence about travelling.

Sorry to be a bore but couldn't help but say something ! I was lucky and both horses walked away with minor cuts & bruises but trailer accidents do happen and are not nice

We towed last year using a Skoda Octavia 2L TDI Manual (checked weights etc all legal). Our trailer is a mare and foal Cheval Liberte and our horse is a 16.1hh RID filly approx 600kg. The car was superb to tow with on the road, very economical but we did find that it was crap if we got on soft ground such as at a show or in our field. We've now changed to a Subaru Forrester as we just couldn't manage without 4WD. We had looked at the Skoda Octavia Scout which is a 4WD but as it was a new model it was out of our price range at the time. Hope this helps

this is all great help and i have been looking in to this in greated detail and think it may be wise to consider my options better and if i do decide i need to tow a trailer maybe go for a 4x4 manual but at the moment i will stick to hireing a small box when i need one.

cheers guys and happy horseing
