I am looking for some advice on feeds and supplements for my warmblood. He is 19 and in light work but doesn't hold his weight very well. He is generally quite stressy to ride and very forward so I'm looking for something to help with condition but something non heating. He also has very loose droppings (which has been checked by a vet) so I have tried brewers yeast, probiotics and haylage balancer but have had no luck. He is turned out during the day and in at night with a large net of haylage. He has previously been on hay but this made no difference to the droppings! He has also been on magnesium as a calmer which also had no effect!
any advice would be much appreciated, I'm lost with the 1000s of feeds and supplements!
Many thanks

My WB - he's young but very fine and he lives out 24/7 rugged in a MW rug. He gets 2 feeds a day each containng one scoop of Chestnut feeds Alpha Easy , a scoop of soaked non-mollassed sugar beet, a mug of micronised linseed and a measure of haylage balancer, a sliced carrot and half an apple. He also gets a sizeable amount of haylage twice daily , but there really is no grass at all on his paddocks and he looks in great condition. He also has a himlayan salt lick and a red rock. He can be a stress head, but this diet has suited him.

Thanks for your reply. My boy is having similar feeds to yours with regards to the linseed, haylage and haylage balancer. He is on simple systems feed twice a day and was on speedibeet which I have recently cut out to see if it has anything to do with his excitable behaviour. He is also a very fine warmblood - he looks more tb/arab than wb! I think that mixed with his stressy excitable behaviour alongside his age is where the problem lies! I have been recommended protexin acid ease too for his loose droppings if anyone has had any experience of it?
Thanks

I have a 6yr old WB who is 16.3 and normally looks thin in winter as she wont eat hay out in the field. she has been on simple systems lucie nuts etc and lots of other stuff to keep her sane in work but keep weight on her. I was recommended by my trainer this spring after she lost loads of weight quite quickly in the late snow to put her on baileys stud balancer. I dont normally like named feeds but her swears by it and is sponsored by them. I rang them and told them my issue but said she cant have a lot of starch as she goes silly. we put her on baileys stud balancer and adlib hay. well this winter so far she looks really well. we have had several cold frosty days and she hoones about like an idiot so not condusive to keeping weight on but she looks really good and i feed less of it. 1gram of food per kg of body weight. she gets 575grams between 2 feeds and hay. thats it.

baileys top line conditioner and chaff - 3 small feeds a day, baileys barley rings added once a day, D and H Calm and condition at night - out at grass in day and ad lib hay at night...he is tall , rangy and always wants food but looks shiny and well..

Frickers - tiny tots , everyone I know is feeding it including a full yard of 30 competition WB's

They don't need a lot, 1/2 Stubbs scoop 2 times a day with nothing else
All the horses are blooming on it

My feed bill has been slashed too which is a bonus.
