Can anyone help!

My aged mare was diagnoised with Kissing Spine two years ago. The vet at the time did steriod injections in her back. These have helped her greatly and she appears to have been comfortable and well since the injections. Since the KS was diagnosed she has been semi-retired happy hack. She is a much loved member of our family.

For some reason this week, she has had three lumps, which have appeared over the areas of her spine where the vet did the injections. The lumps are hard to touch, there is no heat in that area and they do not seem to bother her in anyway at all.

Why would this happen after all this time, and is there anything I should do?

Any help gratefully received!

Thankies
Shanny

That sounds like my fingers! I have arthritic finger joints and they pop up bits of what feels like bone. They don't hurt, it's just what happens when you rub bones together - a sort of callous. It sounds like she's doing just fine. If the saddle interferes at all I found a geleze pad really useful on a racehorse I had once who had a lump - just cut a hole where the lump is. The geleze is tough enough to take the modification and thin enough not to alter the fit of the saddle.

Hope that helps.

when a horse has kissing spines the processes rub together so it sounds to me like extra bone has formed.
my tb has mild kissing spines, hes only 12 and i cant decide wether to get the surgery done as the injection isnt long term.
