Advice needed for suspensory ligament...

Grace should have had her final scan at the end of December but because she ended up having colic surgery she ended up not having it... I phoned the specialists who have been dealing with her, and they want to leave it another month before she has it, but it is something that is really on my mind!!!

Would you phone the specialist personally and have a chat with him about it, or woulde you consider taking the horse to your regular vet who can also do the scan, but have not seen the original one?
 
TBTH I would leave it for the specialist to see it when he thinks is the right time. Patience my dear, patience

Having had hind suspensory problems with my horse (dealt with brilliantly by Rossdales in Newmarket), I would personally wait & get the original vet to look at them for you. Consistency is the key. They know what they have seen before & what they are looking at. They are the specialists & should know more about progress than your own vet. Phone them again & talk to them, explain where your head it at - i know i have been there! See why they want to wait a month & if you can bring it forward to set your own mind at rest.

I wouldn'y worry about not getting her scanned. I was told that the ligament takes a long time to heal and after a month you will not see any difference anyway. I would phone your specialist.
 
Absolutely definitely agree. The original specialists, after all they know the injury, the horse, and they are specialists which counts for an awful awful lot, loads!

Poss as Pippipony says, just try phoning to get the appointment a tiny bit earlier?

Surely she wouldn't be all that ready for you to ride so soon after gut op anyhow?

Thank you... I will phone him this afternoon and have a chat with him.

I am worried because I am having to take her into a field for the grazing she needs after the colic surgery and on two occasions now she has been spooked by something and cantered 2-3 strides around me and it is very wet and deep at the moment. There is no where else I can take her for grass though, but I am so very worried she will have redamaged it by doing this

She is being taken out for grass in the morning, and walked in the arena at night for 15 minutes at night (it is too dark to go down the lane for grass at night).
 
Hi Becki! I wouldn't venture onto the deep wet stuff if i were you. Could she just graze along the lane? Would it be an option to stick with the arena and pick her a bucket of grass yourself? Hope you get things sorted, its a difficult situation. x
 
She won't graze on the lane at all, she just completely has a stress out and bucks on the spot

I just think she is going to end up a companion horse to be honest. After the way she has been today walking around the arena, if the ligament was not f***** before, it certainly will be now.
