Hallo :)

I've posted this on a few dog forums but not much response, this seems a fairly active one so perhaps better luck!

Basically, I've decided that I want to work with dogs. I have worked in kennels etc before but want to get into training/rescue work (rehabilitating & rehoming not just picking up the poo)

I just don't know how to get there right now, I volunteer as a class "assistant" as a puppy class, and just watch the higher levels and learn from them. So I'm not a total novice but I'm a long way off being an expert or running classes!

I was looking online today - and there's actually a BSc in dog training and behaviour in Hull. Has anyone taken this course? It's a long way from me so in two minds. Then I spotted an online HND/FDSC - which would be ideal if I could get practical experience on the side (it's all theory). But I'm a bit skeptical about online learning - seems like a fake degree! And only assesses your knowledge but not practical abilities which I feel is a bit of a cheat, but maybe it's not?

Has anyone got any nuggets of wisdom to share?! :p
I've got a lot to learn and want to crack on! But in the right direction, not a shoddy one.

those who work with dogs could you tell me how you got into it?

Many thanks to all who read.

I do dog daycare, boarding and walking. I've been doing it for the past two years whilst also doing a part time MSc. Although I don't have anything to do with rehab or rehoming I have learned SO much as I deal with a many different breeds and personalities on a daily basis and it has taught me so much. When I take then gang out I am constantly watching how they interact with each other, body language and with a few of the more challenging ones I have looked after in daycare, I have worked really to improve the way they walk on the lead/recall/behaviour around other dogs etc.

So perhaps you could do something similar whilst also studying and also get specific work experience from someone already working in rehab/rehoming as that is without a doubt more challenging that what I do on a daily basis!
