Hi all, thanks for taking the time to look at this. I thought that I might tap into some of the vast amounts of knowledge on here.

Some of you are possibly already familiar with my stallion, Valeur R (or Valerie at home) from a previous post on here about SHGB grading.

This season is our first of offering him for stud, and I would welcome any advice on how to advertise a new stallion, stud cards, how to get on stallion parades.

We competed him lightly as a 4 and 5 year old. As a 4 year old he was 4th at the BEF dressage final, 13th at the BD National Champs in the potential international dressage horse class. As a 5year old he placed 7th in this class, beating several other graded stallions.

As well as being a dressage horse he has scored 9.5/10 for his loose jumping technique in the BEF young horse evaluation and 9/10 for his loose jumping at his grading.

Pictures of him can be seen on the Twemlows website - www.stallionai.com or on my website www.tayloredequestrian.com

If any one can tell me how to put a pic on here I could also post one on the site.

Any advice is very welcome, thanks in advance...

TayloredEquestrian - be careful of the advertising rules on the forum!!!

I'm not trying to advertise at all, I would really just like some advice.

Having read quite a few of the posts there seem to be a lot of mare owners and stallion owners and I just want to pick their brains as breeding is totally new to me.

But thanks for the warning, it was not my intention to advertise, merely to give enough info to allow people to comment.

if i were you advertise in horse deals, heard some good reports regarding response,h&h too and maybe bd mag, if your or a friend is good on a pc then you maybe able to create your own flyers and stud cards, (i have done some for a friend and their relatively easy if you know how and have a decent printer) i think with young stallions you just need to get as much press as possible, thats just my opinion though

yes i did it on word, just look at how other studs have set out theirs will pm regarding a good stud card too look at, we bought a wad of cream card and laminated them, with the flyers always have them in the lorry and car and put them up any where and every where you will get response from the most random places!!

TE, if you are quite good on a computer then visit - www.vistaprint.co.uk, they are good if doing it on a budget, otherwise there are lots of good graphic designers etc going about.

Advertise him on some good websites - stallionsdirect, stallionsatstud, stallionsonline. A lot of people use Horse Deals for Nationwide views as well.

Personally we have stopped advertising in magazines, paid out huge sums of money for not much return. Most the mare interest in our stallions have been through word of mouth, or own website or the offspring. Also getting your stallion out and about it one of the best adverts.

If standing at Twemlows then they will also advertise him on their website.

I have to say the Horse Deals stallion issue (March) stays in my collection and I refer back to it. A bold eye catching advert in there is worth it I would think.
in terms of advert content I would want to see a very clear conformation shot or movement shot. Details such as Age, height, sire, dam, damsire, bodies graded with, stud fee, location, website address as a minimum.
Brief mention of competition success and offspring success (when he's old enough). Less is more as the advert needs to catch the eye and not have tons of writing on it that distracts from the message.

On a website I would want to see a lot more information, more photos both standing up and ridden, detailed info on pedigree, including the mare family, details on grading results, competition results.

Might be worth contacting British Breeding to ask about any stallion days they are organising and also kick SHB up the arse and tell them to get more involved with what British Breeding is doing
