Hi, my yearling who is a warmblood and to make 16hh plus is standing at about 13.2 at the minute and I've noticed that his hind feet point slightly outwards, I'm wondering whether this could just be because he is still growing or a conformation fault, I wouldn't say he was cow hocked as he looks quite straight from his bum through his hocks but I could be wrong. He gets his feet trimmed regularly. Just wondered what people's opinions were 😊

I wouldn't worry too much, young horses go through innumerable stages as they are growing and there are some things that can change out of all recognition. Close hocks, or cow hocks, are more than likely to straighten up as the thigh muscles develop, just as necks can lengthen, pasterns can firm up and bodies can deepen. The things that are usually "set" are the angles of hip and shoulder; the place where the neck comes out of the shoulder, and the length of the back and croup. These are the things I look at when judging foals, pretty much everything else will change.

TBH apart From not overfeeding him and keeping his feet trimmed you are going to get what your given so I would not over analyse it .

Thank u, I was just wondering people's opinions as I've never had a horse from a foal before so interesting to find out other people's opinions 😊 I'm not big into showing but hoping to take him 2 a couple of In hand shows just to get him out and about before he can be ridden.
