I have a 4 year old welsh d, he was shown once at the end of last year in a youngstock m&m class and won it, he was shown in just his bridle.
However wanting to show him this year and wanted to know what is best for him to wear rope halter/bridle? And also he has sweet itch and has rubbed a small section of mane out so would i be best off pulling his mane a little shorter to try and make it less obvious needs doing anyway as its as long as full width of his neck, just want to get him out for the experience more than anything really.
So would be greatful for any tips/advice!

Recently been to a welsh horse show, my friend took her beautiful section d mare, she used a white rope halter i personally think they are smart, she had a lovly shiny coat and she also rubbed her mane, they put extentions in with bonding glue and you wouldn't tell the difference hope this helps!!

I would show him in an in hand bridle. You often see youngsters and broodmares shown in the white halters but for an adult gelding I would use a bridle.

I would definitely pull him mane. Yes he is a native and should be shown in 'natural' condition but you really won't see any other D's shown with a full length mane. It shouldn;t be pulled too short but should definitely be tidied, and as you say this will help cover the rubbed bit. Have fun!

I was thinking in-hand bridle wasn't too strong last time but then i had bridle on then aswellany advice on how to trim his tail in the 'proper' way lol
