Hi, this is about a dog and quite long so sorry for putting it in this bit but hoping more people will see it here.
A friend contacted me yesterday to say that someone had come to where she worked and said they were going to take their dog to pound as they didn't want it anymore. The dog regularly escapes from the house because it never gets walked and is very lively for same reason. It has been taken home by the dog warden on numerous occasions. I said that if she couldn't find any where for it to go I would take it and find it a new home. My friend called me this morning and said I could go pick it up from her work. I went and got it (owner had willingly given her the dog). Two hours later the owner was round at her work again, f-ing and blinding demanding that she get her dog back and saying that she was mentally ill and would tell everyone that she conned her in to letting her take the dog. The social services and police have now been involved but she has said that to stop the dog escaping again she is going to lock it up and not let it out. She says it is a nasty dog and needs putting to sleep!!!! This dog is currently laid on my sofa fast asleep and so far appears to have a lovely temperament. Does anyone have any ideas how we can keep the dog from returning to a home where it will be locked up and never let out? The RSPCA have been involved in the past but can't do anything as dog is fed and watered. Sorry its so long. Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

You may not want to hear my opinion, but....
Unless she signed it over, she still owns it & therefore can take it back.

If the police have become involved, the animal may then be classed as stolen property. You would have no choice but to hand it back, regardless of how it's life will be.

I doubt the RSPCA could do much unless they could prove suffering.

Thats what I thought but am hoping someone may have an inspiring idea. I have told my friend to offer to buy it off her. Will just have to wait and see what happens.

the bit about not doing anything because it is fed and watered isn't true. the animal health and welfare act that came out last year covers more than that. you have to provide exercise etc. google it and have a read and go back to the rspca with that. if i can find the relevant bit i will send it to you.

Get in your car with the dog and hide in a little cottage in Scotland until the heat dies down

Yup - say it bit someone and ran off into the night. Then give your new "stray" that you just happened to have found, a mega shampoo, brush him within an inch of his life and give him a smart new haircut and a sparkly new bling collar so he looks totally different. I wouldn't hesitate.

Agree...say it did a runner, make sure it's not microchipped tho! Clip the coat off, give it a bit of bling..no one will know, sure the police must have better things to do!!
