I'm having a horse on trial next week. He is not insured with his current owner. A friend will be bringing him to my yard and hopefully he'll not need to go back.

Can I insure a horse for just one week? I'm just concerned about travelling should anything happen on the way over. He'll be turned out on his own untill the end of the week when hopefully I'll buy him so I'm not too worried on that one.

Any advice or suggestions greatfully received

Call the insurance companies and ask. Are you a Gold member of the BHS? If your friend got hurt bringing him over there might be an issue, so I would have said you'd need third party liability cover as a basic. If the ned gets out of the field and causes any damage to a third party or their property then the liability will fall on either the then owner or on you, depends on what the trial agreement states.

Yes, I have had full insurance cover on a horse I had on trial for a week.
I also insured a horse while it was temporarily staying with me that wasn't already covered. Just to be on safe side so it can be done for short lengths of time.
