Hey everyone

Hi, I'm Emily and I'm from New Zealand.
I'm planning on travelling the UK/Europe next year for a couple of months but lately i've been really thinking I would quite like to try and get a job over there for 6 months or so. I was thinking of trying to get a grooming job over the competition season so from March - Octoberish and then going traveling after the job finishes. So, I have a few questions

1) Generally, is this a stupid idea
2) How difficult is it going to be for me to get a job from over here (i'd really prefer to have a job secured before I leave) and where to look?
3) Is it going to be harder for me because I don't have any actual 'grooming' experience as such. I have had my own horses but they have both lived out and I've really not had much experience with looking after stabled horses (its really not done here unless they are competition horses).

and - any advice?

I know it isn't an easy job and you get paid a pittance but I'm not doing it for the money more for the experience to do something in a different country and doing something horsey as I don't plan on having a career in horses.

Any opinions welcome :)

hi Emily

Firstly have you got your Work permitt arranged? Without this you won't be able to even apply for jobs in the UK.

I would be very surprised, and rather suspicious, of any yard that didn't want to meet you and see how you handle and work around horses before offering you a position. They would also want to speak to your instructor or other professional horse people who could vouch for your abilities.

Lastly there is a huge amount of competition for jobs like this over here so not easy to come by so the fact that you have little of no experience of looking after stabled horses will go against you.

Sorry if that all sound rather negative but hopefully it is some help.
